Problem of most of DAW users is that many people don't learn their DAW deeply and when they discover a new DAW that they learn more thoroughly, they will conclude that it is better when in fact they haven't spend time on a previous DAW.

It's because that DAW didn't click with them personally and they probably should move on to something they enjoy better. Just because the DAW can do what you need doesn't mean it's compatible with your particular workflow. Not everything is for everybody.

Greatt reviews of all products. I have FL, Abelton, Sonar and Cakewalk. I use Cakewalk as I have found it to be far superior to FL and Abelton, especially in ease of learning. Sonar rivals Cakewalk, but I don't spend a lot of time trying to learn all the ins and outs of it like I have with Cakewalk and I am more interested in in music production than learning new programs. Thanks for the reviews, I found it very nice.

I've been using DAWS since the year 2000 as a commercial recording engineer and my favorites or Steinberg Nuendo/Cubase and Studio One. They seem to be up to date for shear audio production without a bunch of unnecessary lights, whistles and bells. I'm sure other DAWS are better at electronic music production or at least come better equipped right out of the box for that but I'm strictly an audio man. ProTools is okay but not worth it anymore. I started professional studio engineering in 1972 and analog gear was all we had. I had racks full of all the sought after hardware. Neumann mics and the whole nine yards. I can hear the difference in tone using plugins but I don't miss all the tape hiss, wow and flutter, misaligned heads, cards being recalibrated every week, cleaning headstacks and demagnetizing. Small forklift to get a 24 track to the maintenance tech. Wonderful world musicians live in today. Wish I was a young man again.

The DAW that keeps you most inspired is the one you should use. The DAW that teases but does not deliver are the ones to skip. I started on Cubase, Pro tools and now I'm on FL studio. The w-flow is is inspiring and the fact that image line does not rest on their laurels keeps me locked in. I stopped working in pro tools because I find it to cumbersome to work freely for creating beats fast. I would use it for mixing and still do but I can do it more effortlessly in Fl studio. Image line has raised the bar for sure. They don't look to be stopping anytime soon.

I got mixcraft in a humble bundle recently when I was grabbing some cherry audio plugins. I gave it a good honest go and while there was a lot to like, it just fell flat with me. Although I am not a professional, I would not exactly qualify as a beginner, having known the very ancient times of Steinberg Pro 24, C-Lab Notator and the first version of Cakewalk. I think DAWs have their personalities, and so do users, and the two do not necessarily fit. Of course, it can be because the softwere misses a feature you want, but it's also a bit like the encounter of would-be lovers : it fits or not, with all variations between "Love at first sight" and "Well, nothing happens". Can be the workflow fits your way of reasoning, or the look and feel... One man's ceiling is another man's floor.

From my point of view documentation and community support are most important. To be honest, I learned the most about creating music by using the Renoise tracker. And my top DAW for everything else is Reaper, because it is an extremely robust and flexible allrounder. I found nothing else that runs as stable and reliable as Reaper does. I use both for around 7 or 8 years, and I guess I'll stick with this duo forever. 🙂

I'm just a home hobbyist and have only used Cakewalk/Sonar for many years. Now they're going back to a paid version of Sonar. I'll probably stick with it. I'm 67 and don't want to have to learn a whole new DAW. I've invested way too much time already and still learn something new every day. It still blows my mind how with a computer and a DAW, you have an entire recording studio at your fingertips. When I first started recording myself, just an upright piano and singing, I had an Akai reel to reel tape deck, and a little echo box. That was almost fifty years ago!

If they improved the interface and rewrote the engine, I could give it a higher rating, but when your plugin window's menu takes up 1/3 of your screen that isn't even part of the VST, it kinda ruins the experience. Don't even get me started on oruting tracks with the thing. Studio One instinctively seems to know your intentions and routes everything accordingly. To use one VSTi as a host for a differrent VSTi is as simple as clicking 3 buttons and you're ready to rock, and you don't even need to open a single menu to do it! S1 has feaatures that other DAWS need to have, but for some reason, they aren't even concerned with things that expidite a user's workflow.

But because I have used Logic and Cubase for years and Ableton Live Suite for 2, for specific projects, I am happy with Studio One now as my main DAW for everything. Especially for orchestral music because of the sound variations and the tight integration with Vienna Symphony Libraries. And for some great workflow tools as well. It's not perfect, it still has things that need to be added, like XML export. But overall my first choice.

I started with Cubase 3, but everything changed when I used Studio One for the first time. It was more intuitive and everything seemed to be exactly where I needed it to be. With a slew of functional improvements from each new version, (basic functions like clicking on a VST track, and playing a MIDI file in the built-in browser using that VST's selected sound, or basic bouncing to MIDI to a new track from an audio file) has really made composition easier than any other DAW I've ever used.

And yet I still lose out on projects because so many people’s first question is “do you use pro tools”? Most DAWS are great with midi, except Pro-Tools. FL Studio is mainly for Beat making, but severely lacking in Audio Tracking. Logic & Cubase are the most preferred. They can't be Beat !! You can do everything in them w/o having to use another DAW. Reaper is the most CPU efficient of all !! Reaper, just requires a little more time to customize. They have improved on the midi, yet it isn't as intuitive as Logic or Cubase is in composing. Yet, for recording audio, Reaper has features that other DAWS don't - (oversampling). Yes. An amazing DAW.

Studio One was at the top of my list, but I went to the reaper, it has internal oversampling for plugins and you can freeze buses unlike in studio one. Those buses take up a lot of CPU and you need to be able to freeze them otherwise you will become crippled to a certain degree when it comes to mixing without limits!

Cubase onstock effects and synths are top notch in these days and absolutely comparable to expensive purchased plugins. I really like the fast creative Samplertrack, Direct Offline Processing and the Control Room e.g. great GUI too. Highly recommend, I must say.

Bitwig is still too new. But it's pretty much ahead of all the others. It's kind of a shame that so few people are willing to try it and see. It has majorly good features for workflow and built-in devices. Most DAWs are fully capable, but with Bitwig and it's modular EVERYTHING, there's pretty much nothing you can't do quickly and efficiently. People don't realize it has 4x oversampling built in to its device chains, etc.

@@DuceIRae I was just about to comment this. I’ve been on Cubase, Studio One and Logic. Recently though I stumbled on Bitwig, and it feels like a WHOLE other experience of a Daw - sort of like a modular synthesizer mixed with daw abilities. I’m hooked. Obviously not for everyone depending on your style of music, but well worth the investigation. And it’s hardly just an offshoot of Ableton Live imho. Thanks:)

I come from Cubase, Logic, Samplitude and most recently Reaper. Now I'm at the totally underrated Daw Mixcraft. The usability in Reaper is really terrible compared to Mixcraft. When it comes to features, Reaper is unbeatable, but if you really want to make music and don't want to spend hours for stupid configuring or searching through endless context menus without any icon, then I highly recommend mixcraft. In my case the CPU and ASIO usage is also better. I no longer use the other DAWs voluntarily. Anyway, with the new version I'm finally putting Reaper on the shelf. Just my opinion.

Reaper is better, it has internal oversampling for plugins and you can freeze mix busses to save CPU! This is why I stop using studio one because you are crippled when it comes to mixing...the buses take up to much CPU but in Reaper, you can use as many plugins as you want by freezing the buses! This is vital to recreating an analog sound!

@@wisdommasterreviews4712, That's exactly what I mean. Reaper has many technical features that make a lot possible. But that's not all in my opinion. I want to make music and not turn off any bus to make it work. Midi notes hang constantly, etc. Oversampling or double oversampling, awesome double oversampling, everything is great. From a usability point of view, Reaper is the worst choice of all available DAWs in my opinion. Technically, it has a lot to offer for people who like to do a lot of configuration to fix problems that don't exist in other DAWs at all. But everyone has different priorities when it comes to a DAW. From a usability point of view, my personal favorites are set.

How can you load a DAW inside of Studio One @04:25?! Aren't those merely Rewire, VST Extensions, and other things which most Flagship DAWs can launch? Saying that they can launch a DAW sounds a bit "questionable". Not trying to be a jerk, I just don't want people to have unrealistic expectations.

Reaper is awesome but could potentially hinder a new producer, especially one making beats. It tempts noobs with the infinite demo and $60 price tag but is very hard to get started in due to the lack of included virtual instruments/samples and the archaic plugin interfaces don't help either. It definitely hindered me and set me behind my peers when I started on Reaper while everyone else was using FL. Now that I've obtained some awesome third party plugins/samples and learned Reaper inside and out I do feel like I'm the one ahead now. It can do things producers that haven't used it just don't know are even possible.

Can someone guide me - i've tried different DAWs but still haven't found one i like. The closet i got to one was Abelton Live. The other i tried was Pro Tools and Cakewalk I have a 6 yr. old PC, a Komplete Audio 6 soundcard (also about 6 yrs. old) and a M-audio oxygen49 usb keyboard. I need a DAW where i can record and program my songs. That means building the songs from scrath. It has to be a DAW that does what I want. So if i want a song to be in shuffle instead of strait 1/8 notes or 1/16 notes it has to be able to do that pretty easy. Also the drum programming has to be easy. I don't have alot of moeny to buy extra plugins, so it must also have some good sounds that comes with it. Please give me some suggestions cause i'm gettin frustrated here.

Honestly the best one I can recommend is reaper. I was in the same boat. Tried a lot of daws and all of them had something I liked but then had something that annoyed me as well. If you put in the time to really set up reaper, you can take everything you like from every other daw and build reaper to work for you. It does take some time, but after watching some yt tutorials and reaching out on the Discord for a couple other things, I finally feel like I am working in the perfect daw. It's set up to suit me and do what I want it to do.
