The one thing I loved about staying in Felixstowe was the sound of the waves rolling over the pebbles on the beach, it makes a fizzing noise, very relaxing in the evening. Lovely place, made me miss those lovely 70s gardens when I was a kid, full of flowers and like you saw nooks and crannies so play or sit with your parents.

Local from nearby Ipswich. I've spent a lot of time at Felixstowe! I remember a game we used to play when I was a kid was "Emptying the Beach". My dad convinced my sister and I that if we worked hard enough every time we went, we could empty all the stones from the beach by throwing them in the sea and make the beach all sandy. There's several photos of us as small children in our extremely fashionable early 90s garb lobbing stone after stone into the sea. Quite a good mid-action shot of my little sister rearing back for a particularly hard throw!

Oh, and there's a tiny fish and chip shop on the end of the road on the corner just down from Mannings Amusements (not the Regal Fish bar, the tiny one on the corner in the other direction) - best fish and chips I've had. Sometimes we drive to Felixstowe just for that fish!

Famous for 'fast Eddie' haha. I used to live there and loved it. Up until around 2012 (a decade ago) it was a very quiet town. 9am in the morning quite eerie in a nice way but, now its like most places, being spoilt with new houses and attracting too many people to settle there. I'm only a 10 min drive away nowadays.

I worked on Felixstowe docks for 11 years before I left to join the Navy. The port has grown considerably since then. I remember in the late 90s and early 00s it was quite dirty in the town and along the front. Glad to see they’ve cleaned the place. Might need to revisit soon.

grew up here until i was 18, not gonna lie it was an absolute dive, nothing going on, most things closed up thru the 2008 crash, really bummed you out as a teenager - but you've managed to capture it looking quite nice! went back a week or so ago for the day and was surprised at the new bits, but even more the old bits that have still managed to cling on after all this time: e.g. the hut! mini milks were 20p then... think last week they were maybe £1.10 😅

We had a caravan at Suffolk Sands many years ago So as a teen I was always running around the fort late at night with friends. Nothing was really fenced off like it is these days. All of my friends were at the neighbour caravan park which was a 15 min walk. The trouble I used to get up to in felixstowe would be punnishable by imprisoment these days lol. Great memories. We had several caravans over the years at suffolk sands and I remember the old clubhouse by the waterfront very well.

Hastings was the childhood seaside town that most shocked me of its poor, rundown condition. Felixstowe was the seaside town that most pleasantly surprised me - it was much more than just a port and amusements, I vividly remember the seafront gardens and the old fortifications to explore. the funfair at Felixstowe had the meanest bloody walser a few years back then there was the boating lake and the astroglide type slide on the pier. mannings is good too, there used to be a nice restaurant attached to that. i'm about half an hour from this place. the gardens need to be smartened up. the regal fishbar is fantastic, still is lovely either for take out or eat in fish and chips. i remember them putting in the rocks. there are also playground facilities with spinning child's rides near some big houses somewhere along the prom. I remember getting a foxes glacier mints soft toy polar bear and a soft toy tiger and her cub from the market here too. the polar bear and tigress and cub's still with me today. My brother used to fish off the end of the peer, and I remember the dodgums too. they were by the slippery dip slide. 25 p a slide on that thing, careful not to lose your ticket into the sea though. the new cafe around the big amusements, not mannings, is great too. nice coffee and cake there. The spar pavillian is good too. the gardens are large by the pavillian too. I have been to the ferry boat inn too, lovely place. there is a little cabin type cafe where, I'm not Joking, they were so prim and proper, they called spotted Dick "spotted Richard!"

June 23, 2022: An advert for the site of the former Marlborough Hotel in Felixstowe has been placed on the property website Rightmove, raising the prospect a solution could be found for the 49-bedroom premises, which used to be popular with holidaymakers, organisations and business people. An "eyesore" Suffolk seafront hotel that has stood closed and boarded up for years has been put up for sale for £2million, sparking hopes the building can be revived.

The pier's arcade was amazing in the '80s, it was a test location for new arcade machines, so they often had machines that never appeared anywhere else in the UK. Also remember being on holiday there as a kid in the early '90s, being awoken to countless fire engines racing to the back of Mannings, they had a cafe called "Arthur Daley's" and the place caught fire in the middle of the night.

One of our favourite places along the coastline of Suffolk and Norfolk. Have been over to Bawdsey on the little ferry. Long time ago now...time for another visit! There are lots of little places in Kent people can seek out that are similar to the setting of Old Felixstowe . Bit off the beaten track, but worth it for the peace and quiet with the jangling of the little boats in the water. Love it that you show the other side of places too from the fun and noise to the peace and tranquillity...x J x

We live near Languard Fort right by the sea front. It's such a chilled out place to live. We absolutely love beach street, glad you got to see it yourself 👍. One place I recommend is Fish Dish (across the road from the pier) for amazing Fish and chips, we are there the first night after moving house and the place was lovely and so was the service 👍

I'm from the US and stumbled across your channel. Love it! Felixstowe looks nice! I always wonder, is the ocean really cold? It never seems that there are a lot of people actually in the ocean.

There used to be a couple of American air bases not that far away. I worked on both of them.

Hi Tim. Great video. FYI, the plot of land you were discussing that used to be home to the Cavendish Hotel has been earmarked for flats/apartments in the art nouveau style of the original hotel

Me and my bestie used to go to the Cavendish hotel 💃 disco, it was known as the Cavvie, the pier pavilion which was pulled down years ago (the site of the leisure centre) used to have discos on a Sunday night if I remember right and there was also a disco in what is now Mrs Simpsons cafe next to the Fludyers Hotel. Felixstowe is a one road in and out town, I don’t think businesses do well there.

The secrets out .I love Felixstowe I go there about 5 times a year all year round .Don’t know what happened with the Marlborough hotel A lot of the time in the summer all the holiday accommodation is fully booked There is plenty of parking within walking distance of the beach The seafront parking is always busy most of the year because most of it’s free and no time limit
