I wasn’t keen to go but my husband desperately wanted to and eventually wore me down. We travelled with a company known in the UK for looking after “older” travellers and I was absolutely awestruck at what we saw. You have to see it to believe it. Yes there was security everywhere and yes the locals were pushy but travelling in company with a guide gave us protection. A must see destination.

Going by your video, Egyptian people seem so kind, welcoming and friendly. I have always wanted to go to Egypt, but my family is terrified of going. I am an avid traveler, so I can't say I've never been anywhere, but Egypt is definitely a dream destination of mine! I think more people would feel safe going to this wonderful country if they prepare themselves for possible scams, learn about basic culture and customs, and book excursions in groups versus being alone in a country you have never been before. My experiences may be different than yours as a solo woman traveler, but I genuinely like to believe that 95% of people are kind, compassionate and understanding. I really hope to go to Egypt by my 70th birthday haha. Currently 32 so quite a ways a way, but definitely something to look forward to.

I visited Luxor during a Week's cruise along the Nile as a kid. Now I'm finishing my BA in Egyptology and was at a premier for a new exhibition I helped with The trip really gave me the love for Egypt that I've kept ever since! It's wonderful to see you filming some of the areas I've been studying for 3 years - I've literally been translating a papyrus that records the first strike in history. It mentions how the workers who build the tombs of the Valley of the Kings walked to the back of the mortuary temples that you flew over. After my Masters that I'll start later this year, I hope to travel to luxor to really put my studies to the test!

I loved Egypt when I went in June 2007. Was nice and hot - high 30s to 40 degrees so I felt like I was back home in Perth, Western Australia, which I had been away from for over two years. It was like another world, which is quite interesting, as I have heard that there may be extra-terrestrials responsible for building the pyramids - I wouldn't be surprised. I did a Nile cruise which was great! I should have paid the extra to do a 5 star cruise but I thought 4 star would be fine. A few teething problems at the start but it turned out alright so I didn't regret it. I spent a few days in Cairo and that was an eye-opening experience. I went to Hurghada for 4 days on the Red Sea and managed to relax and feed fish just in from the shoreline as well as go on a boat dive. I found the people to be very authentic, friendly and accommodating. One guy in Cairo started a conversation and when he knew I was looking to buy bananas he took me down some side streets to find them. I would never have found them otherwise. He owned a perfume/scent shop and took me there and gave me a drink. We chatted for about an hour and he showed me pictures of him with some well-known people. I bought some male and female scents which I found excellent. You only needed a small dab and it lasted ages. Would love to go back again one day...

Hello from Nee Zealand Tim, look forward to you coming here. My cruise down the Nile and trip to Egypt was the best trip of my life, unfortunately was 45° Celsius and really quite unbearable heat, but still worth every moment. Will def go back in April when its cooler. I never got bad belly when all my companions did. I stayed away from anything with water/ice. No salad washed in water, only bottled water, only hot food and probably about 2 tonne of pastires and desserts. I found that staying away from all non bottled water was the key, even when brushing my teeth I used bottled water Thank you Tim, you have literally allowed me to relive so many special moments I had. My hubby and I absolutely love Egypt, we've been 3 times, and honestly we couldn't have asked for better service and experience. The locals are so warm and friendly. Yes pushy at first, but a firm but polite no thank you is all that you need, especially if you say it in Arabic, which can surprise them, and does get appreciated. As for tummy troubles, my hubby has quite bad IBS and we have never once been ill in Egypt, if anything he was a hell of a lot better. We learned our lesson on our honeymoon 14 years ago when we went to the Dominican Republic. Never have ice in your drinks, no matter how hot it is, or if they insist it is bottled water. Also a big factor in an upset tummy and feeling poorly believe it or not is the temperature of your room. We all go on holiday and with it being super hot, especially in places like Egypt, we like to crank the air conditioning up and have a cold room. Going between cold and hot several times a day can affect you, and make you poorly and we were advised never to have the room lower than 21°C, so you don't get that huge shock when going between the two. Obviously hygiene is also a big factor, so if the hotel doesn't have a sink or sanitizer machines outside the restaurant (this was before the pandemic) just get yourself a little bottle of hand sanitizer and before you eat, use it especially after touching things in communal areas, door handles, stair rails etc etc. Also don't bother buying loads of insect repellent over here, wait until you get there, find a local supermarket and get some of the local ones. They are far cheaper, but also much more effective, they do absolutely stink though, but it's definitely worth it. I absolutely love that you've been to Cairo and now Luxor, and highlighted both in the way that you have. One final warning on Egypt, beware the local vodka! Oh my word that stuff is like rocket fuel, so if you normally drink doubles, start out with a single, and see how you get on. I look forward to your next post. X

I have been there in 2001 - shortly after the massacre of Luxor (Dayr-el-Bahri in 1997). I also stayed at the Hilton Luxor Resort and Spa and I was so surprised: everything has changed! I don't recognize anything. Even more in the Valley of the Kings the "Visitor Center" vis-à-vis of King Tut-Anch-Amuns grave didn't barely exist. There was nothing (I remember well, because I was thirsty and wanted really something to drink). The Temple of Karnak: so many new sidewalks in front an in the temple - I can't believe it! It's a whole new place... I think I have to revisit Luxor and Karnak.

Tim. You have been to so many places, I am currently not in a financial position to travel so you have done me a favour by going to places I can only dream of. I love your stuff. By the way I am from Folkestone and i saw you’ve visited the Burstin haha. Keep doing your stuff as you’re providing content thats keeping me going until i can travel again!

I've always wanted to go to Egypt, but as someone who has a delicate stomach and the horror stories, I've really even put off. Does look lovely though 😊

This video has the perfect balance of walking around the destination and quickly touring the hotel! I love how you show the full walk- sped up, without cutting away- while entering these epic tombs! I've never seen another video do that in these places, and I think it really adds to the experience and context of the place. Thanks for making great videos and explaining why you were "half bored" in this one. The caption still spelled it that way. LOL.
