Great video on St Ives and well documented, The Loo situation at St Ives is at best laughable with a Loo on Smeatons Pier and the Sloop car park as well as the one you commented on behind the RNLI station with the 40 p charge. Can you imagine the sheer volume of people/Tourist/Trades people in and around St Ives with only three Loo's and to put a charge on them is behaving like the public are just cash cows, considering the eye watering car parking charges. Due to these councils treating us like cash cows we now holiday in Wales, which is far more cheaper and just as beautiful. Car Parking charges in Porthmadog £3 all day and you can catch a lovely steam train into the valleys and mountains or Aberystwyth with it clear blue water or Caernarfon with the most beautiful romantic castle in the world. Please keep making these lonely videos as we enjoy them so much.

Holidays in Cornwall were always taken in October or April time when we used to come down to Cornwall. Just out of season & I can remember days when we were walking in t.shirts along beaches with the sun streaming down! Our favourite holiday was a Christmas one near St. Michael's Mount when we visited Mousehole for the Christmas lights! I've never been to Cornwall in high season! I can remember walking in St. Ives with hardly anyone around! Just the way we liked it. You two always have such fun. Lovely vids to watch for half an hour with a smile each week. x J x

@@bernicebestOh we are keeping "spend a penny" going in our family - it's a less obvious way of saying you need to pay a visit! I even tell the children at school where I work sometimes. My much-missed Mum was born in 1927 and I think she and her sisters always said it. It's years since I've been to St Ives and I think out of season is the way to go. It's a bit too far otherwise. We have stayed in Port Isaac several times in recent years and had a lovely time but it's got too expensive now. Lovely video.

Lovely video from St. Ives. 🤩And I really envy you for the great weather. Here we have mostly had 8 degrees and rain for a while 😳 I have visited St. Ives in a totally off season, middle of January, and it was almost empty and a lot of shops and restaurants were closed. Really peaceful and beautiful and definitely worth it, but the sunset was quite early so I didn't have so many hours available to roam the streets and beaches. It was quite windy too, and the waves at Porthmeor beach were like pure foam. Spectacular. It looked great now with some visitors but not too many, and still looking summery. 40p for a visit to the loo is really acceptable in my opinion if it means that the loo is clean and has toilet paper. I myself rarely use cash so the contactless option is very handy. In Norway many malls and some bigger train stations have this too, and it often costs the equivalent to £1, and they don't have the cash option either. I'll surely visit St. Ives again, and probably in a sholder season but with not as early sunset as in January 🙂 Thank you for the tour! Torunn 🙂

Just watched this, and it brought back some fantastic memories from my visit. Now need to see if I can book some out of season time in September, early to mid, for this year's meditation and relaxation chill time for my mature body rejuvenation, and get me through to the new year. Been to St Ives twice now, but definitely need another visit. The 40p for a P on the plastic is redic. Used to say I need to spend a penny, but that doesn't work for that saying now 😢 Surely it costs more in card fees than the 40 pence to pee. I can remember shop keepers saying that you have to spend something like £2 or more if you payed by card, as they had to be able to cover their bank charges on the card use for each transaction! Anyway, I'm so glad that I have come across your Utube site and have watched a good few now, as well as subscribed. Hope you have a great season of trail walks this year, and my best wishes go to you both. Cheers now, Mike Mears Baydon Wiltshire 💛💛 🥃😎

Toilet Tip!! The loos at Portminster beach are / were free at the beginning of September. Just under the railway bridge. I would always advise getting the train in, park at St Erth or Carbis Bay, the views are cracking. We rent an apartment in Carbis Bay as so handy for us. There are so many good restaurants in St Ives of all sorts. There are loads of live stream cameras in St Ives to do a selfie with. One at the Sloop. I always go to the Sloop no matter how expensive (£6.45 a pint of Rattler!) I just bought three bottles of Rattler this morning, 3 for £6 at our local shop here in the North West! I still need my annual Sloop visits though. Captains Table restaurant upstairs at the Sloop well worth a visit. As usual a great presentation, well done guys!!

St Ives always something of interest going on…the last time there we came across at least four separate occasions on same day of lost frantic dogs …they were going crazy trying to find owners…I wanted to help but couldn’t get near any of them…lesson is if you take dog with you hold on tight as a lot of people around and the individual human scent can’t be found by dogs…especially if raining… I just hope they were reunited….very distressing….about the loos as a person who is handicapped I struggled up some stone steps to use the ladies but managed to improvise somehow thankfully but The town needs more accessible loos for sure….thanks for video. Always lovely to hear the waves coming in…love from Wales

we usually go to Cornwall outside of the school hols, usually early May or June, and mid September so busy enough without being rammed. The last time we stayed at St Ives was over the New Year 2019/2020 ( who knew what lay ahead 3 months later), our first Winter visit, it felt like what July/August must be, rammed, couldnt get in The Sloop until at least the 3rd Jan, had to sit outside and theyd run out of mulled cider - one of the local shop owners said after the main school hols, Christmas/New Year was their busiest period - we would go again but leave it a week until the schools reopen BUT the weather was glorious, and my husband was boarding on Porthmeor beach on New Years Day - great memories 🙂

Visited Looe last September 12th. Same experience... Everything was open. People were enjoying the beach and there were just enough people to make it fun. Looked up some property prices... Anywhere from £125,000 to over £2 million. But the cheapest spot I found was only £45,000: a lovely parking space! In the US we usually don't pay to use public toilets. I do remember as a girl we would sometimes have to put a coin in the metal stall door. They seemed to phase that out decades ago. Fun video! 😊

Thank you! It is a interesting how these faculties were set up as a public convenience but are now more difficult to use. It seems the rational is about the water charges from the utility company and passing that cost to the consumer, although locals argue that we already pay in our Council tax. It’s an interesting conundrum! A bit of a mute point as they were open anyway. Sarah :)

We encountered the pay toilet situation when traveling in Germany. Yes, they were clean and very nice, but it was hot, and unlike the U.S., we had to pay for bottled water, even in restaurants...coming and going it was expensive. The beer was cheaper, lol. A nice day out. Our coastal areas are also nice in late summer/early fall. The Alec Guinness clip was fun. You look so lovely in lavender, Sarah! :)

I prefer St Ives slightly out of season; have visited many times in summer when our daughters were younger, and it was always packed. Now they are grown up we can visit whenever we like. We usually get the train and sit on the right hand side for the most amazing views, and if we’re feeling energetic we park by the church at Lelant and walk the coast path past Porthkidney and Carbis Bay for a close up view of those stunning beaches. I always love to find somewhere to buy a crab sandwich in St Ives, but watch out for the kamikaze seagulls, I’ve seen them reduce grown adults to tears after stealing food from their hands!

There's a lot of money being made in St Ives via tourism ever since it became a holiday destination. It's a basic human need to remove waste from our bodies, tourist pay for food & drink whilst visiting & as far I know, not had to pay to use any public toilets until recently. Basic public health facilities should be free at point of use for everyone & not to be charged for. To fund these facilities I suggest that any business that doesn't provide free use of their toilets should contribute financially as part of their Business rates, they are the ones making a profit selling food to people that digest it. The high cost of purchasing food & drink & most other services in this town enables plenty of profit & the cost of maintaining public conveniences to a good standard would easily cover these costs. Whoever thought this scheme up to charge for using a toilet, should hang their head in shame. This is a tax on the young, the Old & anyone that has a need for an accessible place for these most important facilities. Profiteering & Greed!!!!

As a local we also pay the high water charges, and our local taxes so I hope the charge helps to keep them spotlessly clean as well as liking the pockets of South West Water.
