Pasty is usually beef skirt, potato, swede and onion plus seasoning. People sometimes put carrot in them now, but this is not a traditional ingredient. The crust was usually thrown away as it was the 'handle' the miners used to eat it, to avoid arsenic poisoning! Cornish pasty has crust around the side Devon pasty has crust over the top like a stegasaurus. Glad you enjoyed it a good one is delicious! Nice to see you in the Southwest hope you enjoy your visit with us and come back in the better weather. all the best James.

Is it a myth that the original ones had half meat and potatoes and half apple pie type ingredients such that the miners had effectively a main and a pudding in one package ?.

Having walked the entire length of the Cornish SW Coast path, every single foot of the most arduous up hill and down hill walks i have ever done. I love the place. I would move there in a heartbeat. If I won the lottery, it would be my favourite place to live. Stick South of France and the Caribbean, Cornwall for me 🙂👍

Cant beat a well made Cornish pasty. That one looked scrummy. Oh and ive witnessed a seagull swooping down and knicking an ice cream from a childs hand. They are ready in an instant to make a play for food. As usual enjoyable viewing James. Again im watching the older vids way out of order. Will eventually get through them all.

You gotta have a pasty when you’re in Cornwall. It’s just the done thing. It looks a pretty little place. There is actually a Cornish witchcraft museum somewhere in Cornwall which looks mint but it’s actually shut until April 2024 but if you and Helen are back there in Spring then you could both check it out. Maybe pick up merch and a few books to read at night in the cosy van. Apparently they have some really interesting books. Not sure about the prices mind. But it’s well worth a look James

It is beautiful down there, We went 2 years ago for the first time to St Ives, we stayed just outside in Hayle and caught the train in as in summer its very hard to find parking and so glad we did it was a lovely train ride, Carbis Bay is stunning and the sea is so Blue ♥ the journey down for us was a bit of a pain as the roadworks around Newquay was horrendous in the Sept when we went down and we said we wouldn't go back until the main road was finished as it was very stressful. I was fortunate that a friend from work used to live down there and gave me all the best bits to visit. Hopefully we will go again and maybe stay around Godrevy as we spotted Seals and there was a decent pub that served my favorite drink Blue Moon !

Hi using maps on phone it will tell you where your car is and navigate you back using walking directions you can keep phone in pocket using vocal instructions. I used it in Great Yarmouth when I was staying in Waverley Hotel. Couldn’t find a parking space so drove round a bit eventually found a space a quarter of a mile away. Next morning couldn’t remember where I’d parked it but looked at maps on phone and it told me where my car was parked. Brilliant although it might seem obvious but a good tip if you don’t already know. Love your videos by the way. Been the St Ives many times, I prefer Carbis bay nearby great hotels and lovely quiet beaches. 👍🏻

James your skills continue to improve every week. That was very well flimed and very well edited. The intro was really excellent. Beautiful in fact. Your skills are well improving lad. Impressive - seriously. Anyway it was a very good film of St Ives because most people will gloss over it quickly but you filmed loads of those beautiful cobbled back streets and alleyways that St Ives has. A really good advert for the place. (me missus says that we are going there next year 🙄). Keep up the great work. Love it.

I like St Ives when it's as quiet as that. In the summer it really is packed and I have a suspicion that prices go up then. The car parks are full as well. If you go there again, park at St Erth station and take the train, it's a 10 minute coastal journey and is well worth the price. There are plenty of videos of it including one I did.

Get a parking app on your phone. Invaluable for getting you back to the car/van after exploring a new town. My mum and her mother evacuated Coventry for Cornwall to stay with relatives during the war. Mum was just a small child. But Nan was taught how to make a proper Cornish pasty by her native sister-in-law and first mum and now me/my husband, have made them ever since. They are delicious. It should be beef skirt, potato and Swede. Everything sliced finely, never cubed or minced. The seasoning is just salt and white pepper. The crust is the handle and miners threw those away as their hands were dirty. Interesting that another poster said that the crust is to the side in Cornwall and over the top in Devon. Ours were always over the top but that came from Cornwall, so I guess there's room for personal preference on that one. I only said to my husband at the weekend that it's time we had a pasty for dinner again. So I'm looking forward to that. St Ives looks lovely. Winter is the best time as it is rammed in summer. But even then, the locals know of beaches and coves where no one goes except locals. I know a young family who moved down there from the midlands years ago. They adore their Cornish life and amaze me with photos of chippy teas on deserted beaches in July and August.

Well you must definitely try a scone in either Cornwall or Devon on your way back up then you can decide jam or cream first that’s always an argument between the two counties. If you’ve got time on your way back have a look at Brixham, it’s a nice place if a wee bit expensive but the harbour is a photographers dream.
