Awesome video! Bit I don't think Re-L has a weak motivation. I think it's shown pretty well in the first episodes - she hated her life in the dome and she couldn't find closure or understanding of her life before the "awakening" happened. Yes, it was out of curiousity, but also out of desperation. She started noticing things that were scaring her, she got attacked in her own home and obviously she was drawn to Vincent as a clone of Monad. Her whole character is about the want of knowing, understanding. She couldn't live on an autopilot anymore.

This show was also confusing to understand for me.

Ergo Proxy is a story with good characters, great atmosphere and creative episodes. I disagree with those that say it is deep. The philosophical quotes and terms are just embellishments the story. They do not form a coherent whole or a central theme. And yet I would still gladly re-watch this over something like Shinsekai Yori and Serial Experiments Lain (I think I might still enjoy Texhnolyze and Heibane Renmei watching then the second time but that's beside the point). I like Re-L's character a lot. I didn't think her motivation was weak. She had many encounters with Ergo Proxy before she embarked on the journey and there was always the hint that she felt some connection, confirmed by the later reveal in the story.

Yes! (spoilers below) It wasn't until I was doing the editing for this video that I stumbled upon someone who pointed out that since Re-L is an imperfect clone of Monad Proxy, and Vincent is an imperfect clone of Proxy One, then that explains their draw to each other that defies conventional logic. Additionally, rewatching the first episodes (for editing) pointed out more details that I missed during the first play through. I still need to watch the anime you listed, but I can attest that Ergo Proxy is a great re-watch.

In fairness to Re-l , she's a pseudo-clone of Monad and I think the show heavily implies her being gripped by Vincent and needing to understand is triggered by Vincent's arrival and/or the pulse of awakening. Which lends to the themes of free will, and having a reason to be.
