Today I will revise the anatomy of the shoulder by reviewing a PD weighted MRI of the shoulder. We will cover the rotator cuff muscles and their attachments, the glenohumeral joint, the shoulder capsule, glenohumeral ligaments and the bones of the shoulder. Detailed knowledge of shoulder anatomy is crucial for anyone reading MSK (musculoskeletal) images.

Not sure if the question banks are for you?
If you're here, you're likely studying for a radiology physics exam. I've spent the last few months collating past papers from multiple different countries selecting the most commonly asked questions. You'll be surprised how often questions repeat themselves!
The types of questions asked in FRCR, RANZCR AIT, ARRT, FC Rad Diag (SA), ABR qualifying Core Physics and MICR part 1 are surprisingly similar and the key concepts remain the same throughout. I've taken the most high-yield questions and answered them in video format so that I can take you through why certain answers are correct and others are not.
Happy studying,
Michael

Outstanding video. I'm a Sports Medicine physician specializing in non-surgical orthopedics, and I've long been an advocate of physicians learning to read their own films. Your clear and straightforward video does an excellent job of breaking it all down in a systematic fashion. Even though I've been practicing for 27 years, I even learned a few new things!

Thank you for such a wonderful comment! I totally agree that physicians being able to interpret their own images is so underrated and facilitates even more meaningful discussion/collaboration with radiologists 👍

Thank you for the fantastic anatomy videos Dr Michael! You make it so much easier to learn these complex topics compared to anatomy textbooks, and the way you explain things so simply and succinctly helps with memory retention. I just wanted to clarify - at 18:11, I noticed a small audio edit but am not sure if that is the coracoacromial or coracoclavicular ligament over the subdeltoid bursa?

A rather complex topic explained very clearly. Thank you so much for this! Looking forward to similar approaches to the other joints too, like knee, ankle and wrist. Could you please confirm one thing : is it possible (or necessary) to distinguish between the muscle bellies of infraspinatus and teres minor? The tendons are relatively distinct but the muscle bellies tend to almost blend in the image.
@radiologytutorials
@radiologytutorials Жыл бұрын
Hi Utsav. It is possible to delineate the muscle bellies but can be difficult in many cases. As to whether it's necessary... 🤷🏻‍♂️ It's an uncommonly injured muscle (teres minor) but is obviously important in humeral stabilization as well as bordering the quadrangular space. Suppose everything is important given the right clinical scenario. Thanks again for watching 🙂 hope you are well

"Thank you, professor. This is Jesse, a rehabilitation medicine physician in Korea who greeted you through a KZbin comment last time. During my residency training, I frequently heard about the rotator interval, but I finally came to understand it clearly through your lecture. I did not understand the concept of spine lateral recess stenosis well during my training in musculoskeletal radiology, so I would also like to request lectures on lumbar MRI or lumbar CT. Thank you so much for the excellent lecture."

How do techs position the arm for a shoulder scan? Supination should be better than just by the side for better supraspinatus ligament visualisation? I wonder how different anatomy appears simply from variations in abduction, supination, pronation etc.

Woke up 15 days ago, without doing any crazy activities, with severe shoulder pain.... after severl days went ot gwt an X ray, the doc said my shoulder on xray loos super healthy and strong and i show no signs of a tear, after several days, the pain got worse and worse, so we went to get an MRI yesterday. Now waiting for the radiologist to read the images and let me know wat is going on exactly. Ihave my images and looked at them but have no idea how to read them. hopefuly we can get this sorted as this came out of no where and being in ain for the last 2 weeks has not been good.
