Long answer short: The Eastern mountains have a better climate for rice cultivation, the staple crop on the island. Also the 1st people to arrive in Madagascar arrived from the East, not West.

The answer is simple. The climate and terrain on the eastern part of madagascar is essentially better for growing crops as compared to the wester side. Its more humid and has an abundant amount of water ways perfect for farms. The western land is super dry, and is way hotter, making it unsuitable for growing plants. If you travel in wesrern madagascar, you can see there arent much trees or much of anything growing. Its just barren lands. This is also the reason why most of the wildlife reside on the eastern regions of the country, with the biggest national park being on the eastern coast.

Since the eastern part of Madagascar is a bit hot and dry, it's better to live in the east than in the west (climate conditions). And economically speaking, it's in the central and eastern parts of the country that Madagascar's economic cities are located. I really appreciate the way you shared many interesting informations... Well done

- The austronesians came to Madagascar from the east. - They haven''t find place in the coasts, so they entered in the highlands. - Then they realized that the coasts are important for trading with foreigners, so they made war against the other malagasy people. The fake historians argued that Andrianampoinimerina made war for unification of the island. False ! Andrianampoinimerina himself said : Ny ranomasina no valam-parihiKO ! -KO ! -KO !

Simple reason: It is because the western side is on the rain shadow of the Madagascar mountains, therefore more people live on the east because more and better rain which means more and better crops. There, saved your time.

Any map of rain will show you the west is dry and the east gets a ton of rain. Like 3 to 5 times as much in some areas

great videos, i would just ditch the super-upbeat-commercial library music in the background. something slower or with less/out drums would be less distracting. thanks Geoff!

The Eastern part of Madagascar looks very similar to the western part of India which you mentioned in the video that it broke away from. Looking at the visuals, I could see what I see around myself in Maharashtra. Lush greenery, black basaltic rocks and waterfalls all around. So beautiful!

You said it is the 4th largest island in the world several times without actually saying how big it is. For example how many square miles is Madagascar?

I wanna visit this place so bad 🙌🏾 my ancestors calling me. I’m drawn to the whole country but more so the Northern and Eastern parts, looks more developed. But Mahajanga and down to Toliara are some cities on the western side that seem to be more popular settlements.

4:30 You said that direct European involvement in its afairs didn't begin until much later than others. That's not true. The majority of the African continent was independent of significant European influence or conquest until the late 19th century.

Unique means there is only one. Something is either unique or it is not. It can’t be “very unique” or “pretty unique”.
@seamussc3 ай бұрын
Yes, but if a unique trait really stands out as a defining quality or trait of a thing, then you can emphasize it with the word "very." Everyone has a unique fingerprint, but if your fingerprint appears to produce an image of Jesus Christ, that is very unique.

The island was inhabited by black Africans prior to the arrivals of southern Asians, who then mixed with the South Asians, followed by another wave of Africans. You didn't mention the slavery of the people, which happened there, too, just like the rest of Africa.

This may not be PC But i'm forever wonder what would happen in Madagascar plan was fully executed instead of the holocaust Look at Israel/Palestine land, basically desert that can hardly grow anything with few patches of arable lands, and no natural resource And surrounded by enemies that want to destory them Yet they built one of the most advanced country in the world that has higher per capita than France and UK Imagine how powerful Madagascar would be with more than 20 times by size, more natural resources and access to indian ocean and atlantic ocean Madagascar would be up there with countries like Germany, France, UK, Japan and South Korea

If that was the case, Jewish people in Madagascar would just be colonizers and receive hatred. Malagasy people would then be called Antisemitic, it would be just like in Palestine or Gaza, native Malagasy people would be starved to death because they don't want Jewish people to steal their land ... and the story goes on and on ...
