@@HystEric_Demory Great opening sequence I can still remember when Kojak first opened here in Britain in around 1976 on Saturday night it used to be shown here,Along with Columbo its not only the best Yank police series but in my opinion the only Yank TV series worth watching virtually all the others are like being tortured

@@davidfrost779 William Conrad/"Cannon" the fat but nervous detective and former cop was very good too ! "The streets of San Francisco", another Quinn Martin production, was also a great show. "Hawaïi Five 0" original series starring Jack Lord is a legendary production too ! And don't forget "Police Story", a more realistic anthology, and its spin-off "Police woman" (Angie Dickinson) and "Joe Forrester" (Lloyd Bridges). A short-lived show doesn't mean a bad show, just see "Most wanted" (1976) starring Robert Stack, soundtrack by Lalo Schifrin ! Finally, we can also like "Starsky & Hutch", especially season 1 with Schifrin music, which remains emblematic of the 70s !

@@davidfrost779 I thought you were only talking about US productions ! I agree with you for British series, being a fan of the Late Gordon Jackson, I really like "The Professionals". I discovered "Dixon of Dock Green" and "Z cars", which had not been broadcast in France where I live. I'm a huge fan of "The Avengers" and met the Late Patrick Macnee in 1991, a true gentleman. I also like very much the "Sherlock Holmes" Granada production with the Late Jeremy Brett, the very best Holmes for me, and "Dempsey and Makepeace" which is perhaps the last great classic cop show with action packed and tongue in check humor !

@@kazamshah4543Yes indeed, this last credits has something of Broadway, a sort of classy "hat tip" to Kojak’s popular character ! The best intro remains season one's (and early season 2 episodes) with the horns and faster rhythm. Why they changed the original orchestration for a much less inspired one is a total mystery !

I was born twelve days before the series premiere of Kojak on Wednesday, October 24, 1973. I've always been a fan of the show, since I first saw it reruns on late night TV in the early 90's. Telly Savalas has had a diverse career as an actor. Roles including movies like: Birdman of Alcatraz, The Greatest Story Ever Told, The Dirty Dozen, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and Kelly's Heroes. I love this version of the theme the best. John Cacavas created an uptempo theme for the final season. I even use this as my ringtone for my phone.

Kojak had to be the most highly rated Summer replacement show, that then got put on the Fall Schedule. Yes we use to get new programming from the Networks back then for Summer. And Fall Shows ran some 32 or more episodes well into the Spring and were almost 50 minutes in length and only 10 of commericals. Indeed the last decade of the Golden Age of TV.

i like the season five opening theme best simply because it does not have those visual strips going across the screen like the others. but kojak in general: no matter what, even as the city was rotting into the ground all around him, Telly Savalas looked *GOOD*. there is an instance or two where TS might look dated, as in "they just don't wear that anywhere/anymore" versus, "that's just ugly; how could ANYone...?". this is no average accomplishment in the 1970s. when i get to that age, i hope i look even a tenth as good as he did.

Best opening scene love the music. The original was too dull. But the originals series 1 to 4 he had all his classic lines like choochi coo, who loves ya baby and more. Didnt really get much of it in series 5.maybe he thought it was too repetitive but my god we all loved it. I love you telly savalas i still watch kojak on tv and am about to buy the full set on dvd blue ray. God rest your soul in heaven... 🙏 🙏 You was a legend 4ever

I'm really glad that this classic hasn't been remade, because no actor, with respect, can come close to the Great Telly Savalas!!!

I remember living in NYC my buddy recorded this intro. We were high and watching it at 4 AM, and we laughed our asses off. There was just something about it. Now that I am older and watching it I do find this kind of amusing but not as funny as back then. We must have been out of our minds or something.
