Truly a bygone era. A great man. Always nice seeing past interviews with Telly.

Truly one if not the most charismatic actors of his or any generation. He brought emotion, toughness, humour and coolness to kojak. He was tough on his men but looked out for them at the same time. He hated the bad guys but was relentless in his drive for justice and protection of innocent victims. The greatest best dressed smartest tv cop ever.

Only Greeks bring such charisma (a Greek word) to an interview Mr Savalas was a wonderful actor, generous and had great presence, and that amazing voice, greatly missed, today's actors!, what do they know. RIP Telly.

He died only six years later. He is a great actor from a great era. Thanks for the memories. The daughter he was speaking of is a professional singer (I think)

My mate Al recommended I start watching Kojak again which I hadn't seen since the original TV series in the '70's. He's right. Great dialogue, one liners with humour and canny story lines (often with some ribbing of his brother, George who played Stavros). Also, great to see New York in the '70's (I'm a big fan of John Lennon & Yoko Ono who lived there at that time so that haf some meaning to me) I also remember his No 1 hit 'If' in 1975 which as a 9 year old was hard to get my head around. Legend has it that 5 women got pregnant just by watching him singing it according to some You Tube comment ha ha. I started reading up on Telly and he led a very interesting life, including that he had a milotary career and was also had a bachelor's degree in Psychology aswell, and i'm yet to read anything dissing him so that's good. He's ill, suffering withdrawal symptoms from cigarettes, and towards the end of his life here. He's still having a ball and giving a great performance. Totally at ease with himself, he always brought great charisma to ny role.

My favourite episode(s) of Kojak was "The Summer Of '69" which was the very first TV detective show to have what we now call a "serial killer". I found it very disturbing as a child, but I still love Kojak to this day!

Great actor and great man Telly Savalas although he had a reputation for being difficult on film sets but he was fine and funny in this interview with Terry! Loved a lot of his films like On Her Majesty's Secret Service The Dirty Dozen Beyond The Poseidon Adventure etc and of course Kojak on tv! R.I.P Sir Terry and Telly Savalas 😞😔😥🙏🏻🙏🏻

I saw him at London Airport (Terminal One) in around 1980, when I was a member of the UK Immgration Service. He was in a long queue in the Arrivals Hall, presumably travelling with his family. He was trying to control a young boy - son? - who was so high-spirited he kept running around. Telly had a devil of a job trying to make him behave, without the aid of handcuffs.

Telly never referred to himself as a hyphenated American. Never did he call himself a Greek American. Like nearly everyone from his generation, they were all proud Americans. They also treasured their ancestry, and celebrated their old-country heritage. But they were first-and-foremost Americans. It was that bond that made theirs the greatest generation.

Crap questions from Wogan. I mean, ask some decent questions... rather than put downs like he's put on weight or is an old father to a new baby. I miss Savalas.
