Idk how we went from Last Evolution to this… anyone left kinda disappointed it didn’t expand on the previous film and just went with this super random story? I know Digimon has always been hit and miss but I’d love to see a coherent story for it that captures the feelings of the original movie/movies and Last Evolution.

It's not supposed to expand on the previous film, that would be a repetitive mechanic because Last Evolution Kizuna and The Beginning are two different movies with very different themes as well. Also the final frame of Last Evolution Kizuna after the credits is the answer to how Tai and the other original digidestined will recover their digimons. It's all about Tai Thesis about humans and digimons which is connected to his future job as we see in 02 Epilogue. Somehow Tai in the future can find a way (after all Digimon are data). Personally i prefer Adventure 01 movie and Adventure 02 movie having their own story. This movie can be very underwhelming for many fans but it's heavy plot once again about relationships, humans and digimons in a different and twisted way . That's the core of the franchise. New challenges and new conflicts and perspectives.

@@ricardosalavisa4490 that’s why I was saying it’s hit and miss… like I understand that it’s always been about character relationships and hard topics but I’ve always felt that a balance between cohesive storytelling and the latter is what makes something great. I don’t like the idea that we should sacrifice one for the other because then things become jarring. There’s a way to weave those themes without making it feel tacked on and out of place because that’s when it truly gets lost… like shoe horning characters in randomly doesn’t leave me with an emotional connection to the character or their story, it makes them somewhat forgettable, and more annoying when you’re sidelining main characters for someone you don’t really have any feelings towards. New characters should be there to bolster the growth of the main characters and not the other way round. I’m also not saying it can’t have it’s own original story, that’s fine but it should have some level of call back and also at least fit a little more cannonically with the rest of the series. It just felt out of place, even though the themes were on brand. It also begs the question that maybe stories like that would be better utilised under their own unique banner rather than one in a franchise. Idk, that’s just my take on it.
