To get the seal out.... drill small holes in the face of the seal and use a SLIDE HAMMER to pull it out.... great patience is required to wiggle out the seal alternating between the Holes you drilled in the seal.... it is a ROYAL PAIN IN THE ARSE!!! LOL

HI Tommy, unfortunately I don't have a slide hammer, so I used something else which is in the next video. I was warned before I started that this job was just as you described in your comment !

I recently worked on a Sportster engine and was amazed at the number of special tools required, some I was able to work around, but not all and some can be a bit expensive. I really enjoy your videos and the different projects you work on.

Hi Max, there must have been some reason for all the peening, maybe for the reason you mention, but it all just seemed a bit excessive to me !

Hi Alan, it was a James Transmission seal kit, 1936 to 1979 for FL FX etc Part number 955649 and it was twenty quid ( perhaps a bit less cannot find the invoice ) from Hogparts. which I thought was good value for money.

There is suppose to be an L shaped spacer … be careful reassembling

The spacer was broken in two, luckily the seal kit comes with one in it. Not sure why it was broken though ?

@@oldnutsgarage generally there just a bent bit of steel and fracture just like yours … I wouldn’t worry about it …
