Supposedly Ninjabread Man was originally about a '90s video game mascot character called Zool, but they lost the license because their game sucked, so they changed the main character to fit the "candy world" theme (which is a thing in old Zool games) and released it as an original title. I rather doubt it. Shovels have been weaponized long before the game. I'm sure it came about as most ideas do, couple of guys sitting around talking shit. Next thing you know knights and shovels becomes a thing. But unlike most of us these guys actually did something with their "stupid idea" and made something brilliant out of it. It's why I constantly tell my son to write down his stupid ideas, because some day they might be useful.
