Wow, I speak Spanish fluently, and have zero Latin blood. European, Caucasian, white, whatever. I chose to learn Spanish at age 10, because I grew up in Las Vegas, my neighborhood was predominantly Caucasian and Latino/Latina. So, the neighborhood kids would speak Spanish to their parents, sounded interesting and I was intrigued, so I went home and told my mom I wanted to learn Spanish. She taught me what little bit she remembered from high school, and I just ran with it. Picked it up real quick. When I was 15, I took Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 in high school, and managed to teach a Mexican neighbor lady English and had her speaking it fluently in 3 months. I was very fluent by age 15, but I took those Spanish classes to learn how to read and write in Spanish. I'm glad I learned it. It offends me when people who don't understand it say things like, "Speak English, you're in my country" or "I don't understand Spanish". Well, that's on you if you choose not to open your mind and learn it. If you aren't gonna take the time to learn Spanish, which is very easy, then don't complain that you can't understand it. Lord, have mercy. That mom acts like speaking Spanish is repulsive. Damn. Spanish is beautiful, and so are Latinos/Latinas. Been around 'em all my life, immersed myself in their cultures, and so I kinda feel like a part of them somewhat, and my boyfriend is Latino and so are my kids. I wouldn't change it for anything. Learn Spanish, you might actually become more intelligent. This country was founded by immigrants. Not white people. I hate it when people complain about not understanding Spanish. It's annoying. Learn it, or ask what they said if you can find a bilingual person who understands both Spanish and English, otherwise, shut up. Seriously.
