Visited Tuesday, easiest journey both to and from the south ever. Saw you in mid delivery at your talk, sorry couldn't say hello but it was a great show, good mix of vehicles, albeit I was only really interested in the van conversions. Prices have shot up, a van j bought 3 years ago is now well over 20k more, for not alot of difference inside and delivery times also pretty long. All that said it was well laid out and the organisation was good, hopefully will return in February. Take care and great to see another good vlog.

Some very nice vans here! I cant get y head around the price of the Campod though, I know its for a different market / need but when you consider that there are things like the Xplore 554 with a fixed transverse Island Bed and Full end bathroom for the same price, and many Tear drops for 10k or so for those who want less, it doesn't make sense to me. The Bailey discovery range starts at £19k and has a similar layout with a full bathroom.

We were there on Tuesday too! I'd be interested to know how that Campod tows as it's not very aerodynamic, flat fronted, narrow and high sided! Love the new Swift Voyager with its separate shower/bathroom layout, and I want the 594 with the island bed. The Voyager might just be the motorhome that pulls me away from caravanning! Still, after 2 years, I can't fathom where Swift get their pricing from or who their target audience actually is for the Basecamp, especially the Basecamp 6 which is more expensive than a luxury Challenger and some of the Elegance ranges with way way way less features!

I am always surprised to see the differences between your distributions and those of the rest of Europe. So different does a little water in between make us? .... For example..... A table. Something that is essential here, for you is an accessory that in the best of cases comes folded and hidden. Another example... Here it is common to have fixed beds and also another collection on the ceiling for not having to do and undo daily. There I have seen many distributions without any fixed bed. I don't know who is more right 🤔 You who know and have tried both sides. What do you prefer?
@andrewjditton2 жыл бұрын
I prefer to have a smaller caravan than have a larger caravan with fixed bed - I'd rather spend 5 minutes each morning and evening doing the bed and having more daytime living space as a result :)

The Knaus Azur was very nice and stylish but I agree about the lack of the window although the inclusion of those cupboards on the wall sort of off-set it for me. I can't say that I am a fan of the CampPod caravan though. Most certainly, it is good to see an easily manoeuvrable light-weight trailer, but it seemed heavy for what it is. 750kg is the line which divides trailers that can be towed with an ordinary driver's licence and those that need a towing licence here in Japan. That means that we have (from Europe!) caravans that meet that criteria and are far more spacious than the CampPod and since weight is the major factor in pushing it around a site, then these more traditional caravans are just as light/heavy. Therefore, other than having the wheels on the outside making rear visibility easier, I fail to see the point. From experience of towing livestock trailers with wheels on the outside, there is a disadvantage in that you can easily be fooled into the width of the trailer and catch the wheel/mudguard on a gatepost etc.. I tend to think that they would be better to get back to the drawing board.
@andrewjditton2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Andrew! Following feedback from the show, the designers of the Campod are going back to the drawing board to try and get it down to 750kg as you suggest.

Good presentation! The first knaus caravan, claustrophobic, no windows, one may as well stay at home LOL. The hymer S, well, for me, travel is about where you travel to, the rear deck, it's only benefit IMO, well, a 'custom car' shop could do it for less! Same parking/cost issue with the Morelo, not much use for parking and exploring, just an expensive campsite queen. Apart from being the Rolex of motorhomes, I find the design uninspired, and the huge lump something I'd not buy at any price. But for me, well I look for clever designs, and good engineering - which means value, as engineering is always a compromise. I'd rather tour in a 2018 Adria Twin Supreme than a Morelo TBH. Electric... well, with transmission, battery and motor losses, they use about twice the energy of a diesel, plus the lithium mines are an abimination using child slave labour and polluting massive areas of land. The Vantage.. £67k for a van with no bathroom.. amazing! Luxury has to be averaged with the luxury of a hedge in winter, to overall, not impressed. Shame the Globetraveler was closed, nice designs. Glad to see no one wearing the stupid, useless, hypoxia muzzles, the jab doesn't work, but at least it seems to have reduced the paranoia: good to see!! :)
@jockmoron2 жыл бұрын
First caravan, not impressed. for a 7 metre van, the kitchen is pokey. The lounge is dark and the lack of windows is ridiculous, why live in a caravan if you can't see the view? You lose a lot by having a fixed double bed. The Swift Ascari 372 is my favourite, nice rear lounge with lots of window for the view, small but adequate front lounge, means a couple can use different parts of the motorhome eg if someone wants to sleep in. The extremely large motorhome at £450 k is in my mind, monstrous. The stuff of nightmares. A metaphor for excess and our poisonous relationship with our environment and the planet that sustains us. Ugh, and ugh again. As for small campervans, I can certainly see their advantages, but not having a toilet/shower means that independence is seriously restricted. Any battery electric motorhomes yet? I'd really like to see that. Thanks for your quick review.
@andrewjditton2 жыл бұрын

In a world of transitioning to electric vehicles these are going to be worthless within 5 years. Not something I would be expecting to see in 2022 but I guess they will go the same way as most other legacy motors very soon….into bankruptcy.
@andrewjditton2 жыл бұрын
It's a weird state we're in at the moment Geoffrey... electric motorhomes are still many years off, and electric van conversions are still very niche (but they DO exist!). For motorhomes, ICE is still the only realistic choice, and you've only got to check out some of the comments to my EV vids to see the friction created when suggesting an EV to tow a caravan. I do think the value of ICE motorhomes will remain higher than ICE cars in 5 years time, simply due to lack of alternatives. Cheers.
@geoffreyfrance92022 жыл бұрын
@@andrewjditton Thanks for your comments Andrew but seriously if they take another 5 years to start then that just shows how far they are lagging behind. Tesla has just launched to Pepsi initially, the semi truck with a range of 500 miles and a weight capacity of 80,000 lbs. it’s way past time that motorhomes have not taken this onboard yet. For those legacy car manufacturers, Ford GM Toyota VW Mercedes etc, it is highly likely that will not be around at the end of this decade because of their tardy response to change. The industry is now moving at an exponential rate. Don’t leave it too late eh? I’m speaking as a man that would love to own a motor home but would never buy an ice vehicle again. Don’t forget as electric vehicle sales exponentially rise, which they are doing as I write, the cost of diesel is going to explode making ownership (affordability) a luxury item.
