A longstanding hometown favorite, Hap represented the USET internationally on Nations Cup Teams where he placed sixth twice and in 1986 won the Nations Cup at Spruce Meadows as the anchor rider in a memorable, nail-biter jump-off. Career earnings for Hap exceed an astonishing $2 million, a remarkable $1 million-plus won at Spruce Meadows alone.
Among the many coveted titles Hap has won during his long, stellar career are the 1990 Johnny Walker AGA Rider of the Year, several times PCHA Jumper Rider of the Year, honored as Horseman of the Year by the USEF and CPHA, and earned the CPHA Lifetime Achievement Award. Hap has won 99 Grand Prix victories riding some of show jumping's finest horses such as Juniperus, Zulu, America 7, and Mirage, to name a few. This year, Hap deservedly earned his place among the greatest as the latest inductee into the Show Jumping Hall of Fame.
