I went closer to carnivore a few months ago. I hadn’t had peanut butter for a couple of months. I decided to try a little. An hour or so later I notice pain in my hands from inflammation. I waited a few days later, tried it again and had the same result. I checked the ingredients and the peanut butter had rapeseed, cottonseed, and soybean oils. I later tried peanut butter without any seed oils- just peanuts and salt. Result: no pain in my hands. For what it’s worth ….

@@DoctorBoz Please recall your tour of a food processing plant. I seriously doubt that pure, unadulterated PUFAs were produced there. I set up some filtration equipment in a tobacco processing plant back in the 90's. I was amazed that part of the process was to strip everything but the cellulose from the leaves, reformulate this "liquor", and then spray the liquor back onto the leaves which were then rolled into cigarettes. The liquor was heavily processed to get exactly the properties that the chemists desired. I'll leave that punch list up to your imagination. 🤕 Those same tobacco companies bought up most of the big, packaged food companies when cigarettes finally fell out of favor. I suspect that common refined seed oils today are extensively adulterated with other molecules by design. This is a *_very likely_* vector of at least some of the adverse health outcomes associated with refined seed oils, IMHO. Thanks for all you do. 🙏 ct

Similar here. But I will say that even "INGREDIENTS: PEANUTS" peanutbutter will have some peanut seed oil, but compared to near 100% peanut oil (like sold for cooking) the inflammation is going to be far less. With bad arthritis, I react to even the little bit of peanut oil that is inevitable in peanut butter. I can eat all the whole peanuts I want with no noticeable inflamation. Anecdotally, I think the readiness of availablity of the oil during the digestion process is likely a key. Whole seeds, or slightly ground, presents a barrier (DIGESTION TIME) to obtaining the oils before your body expels the waste remains.

Dr Boz, you mentioned that the body can't tell where the oil comes from, and they get rid of the oxidized portions when they process the seed oil, however, oxidation can happen a lot between the factory processing and consumption. So maybe the problems occur more in how they're used after processing - like when restaurants heat oil for frying for hours at a time (maybe even days?), or when people keep oils for months at a time, in hot weather especially. Maybe there's a lot of oxidation that happens during those times (post processing) that is harmful to health, whereas the oils that are intact in whole foods may not be as unstable or oxidize as easily (maybe by the time they oxidize in whole foods, the vegetables have already rotted, so you wouldn't eat those. Just some thoughts.

Linoleic acid and other polyunsaturated acids have isomeric variations. It is not enough to say linoleic acid. Which specific isomer? Linoleic acid does not equal linoleic acid without specificity. The studies that do not differentiate lack credibility. In addition, heated seed oils, like deep fried foods, can create oxidized or polymerized derivatives or decomposition products that can be toxic and/or inflammatory.

Once again, really interesting. Here in Finland, new food recommendations came out and I was horrified by them! They are such that if you follow them, you will definitely get type 2 diabetes. I myself am a strange guy and my diet is carnivore and many people disapprove of it. It doesn't bother me. I am healthier than people my age I know and I tell them about my diet as a tip to stay healthy and in good shape. Of course, that also has an effect that after a break without exercise, I returned to being an active athlete with all my might. The sport from my youth became different and now at the age of +60 I compete in a different sport than when I was young. I was in danger of getting insulin resistance and bowel cancer by eating bad food. When I was watching your and other sensible videos on KZbin, my intellect came to my head and I don't give a shit about any recommendations. If you don't need extra fat, you can't eat it in the first place. The main problem in the keto or carnivore diet is figuring how much to eat since the body doesn't feel hunger the way a glucose burner feels it. Two situations: 1. Eat less, lose weight then platew. Because the body decides it gets less nutrients and must reduce the expenditure. 2. Eat more, maintaining/gaining weight and the body must increase the expenditure (Ex: increasing the cortisol, having increased BPM, the feeling for doing something all the time etc.)

Dr Boz, You verbalized very little data. The summary i got was higher omega 6 in red blood cells correlated with lower inflammation. This is not much information to use to come up with a reason your pal might be mistaken. I could think of many things but they would be speculations in darkness. You've given me little to work with here. I might suggest you write an outline before recording a video and stick to the outline. I have a question for you, what causes omega 6 and omega 3 to be incorporated into red blood cells? How does this compare to plasma levels? Were RBC longer lived? Which RBC membranes were more flexible? What was the vitamin d levels of these people? How was inflammation measured? I have too many questions. There are other studies showing for example eliminating migraines with a higher omega 3 to 6 ratio. Yes, I have many questions... What was the composition of the brain, was there any correlation with the RBC? Tell me if I'm wrong but doesn't omega 6 inhibit DHA in the brain? So many questions.

I remain very sceptical. 1. Your 4 papers are all about associations (cohort studies). They can be heavily confounded, no causal inference can be made. And, no, multilinear regression to adjust for confounders usually does not work well. 2. My main problem with seed oils is not their appearance in the plasma, but their storage in cell tissues all over the body and the very long half-life time in there. For example, today the proportion of LA in the adipose tissue is something like 800% (if I remember correctly) higher than before seed oils were introduced in our food supply, and it takes about two years for the proportion to half. Now, by its nature, LA stored in a given tissue has at any given time a very small but nonzero chance to react with oxidative compounds. This implies that the more LA is stored in your tissues, the more oxidated LA will be there at any given time. I do not need studies to show me that, this follows from pure logic and chemistry. In think everyone agrees that oxidated LA is the main problem in this story. If one intends to convincingly rebuke the claim that seed oils are bad, a randomized controlled trial is needed that looks at a very long time span (due to the large half-life time) and in particular at the levels of oxidated LA, not just LA, in tissues all over the body and the degree of inflammation therein. 3. In Japan, the consumption of literally almost all food compounds has decreased over the last 20-30 years, including sugar consumption by about 50%. Nonetheless, people in Japan today have much more chronic disease than 20-30 years ago. This rules out these compounds as the predominant cause for chronic disease in Japan. The only food compound that went through the roof over the last decades in Japan is LA due to seed oil consumption (often as part of non-sugary processed foods). How else would you explain is other than "seed oils cause chronic disease" or at least "seed oils in processed food cause chronic disease"?

Bingo. Consuming industrial seed oils will slowly oxidize your body and cause chronic disease. They are to lubricate machinery, not mankind. Disconcertingly, the single line of reasoning to support the fraudulent claim that they are "heart healthy" is that they lower LDL cholesterol. However, they do so because they are hepatotoxic, and unbeknownst to most, they actually increase the amount of lipoproteins that are in fact atherogenic, which as it turns out, are merely those that have been oxidatively modified. Yikes.

I’m grateful for this information! I think I missed this part, what was the recommended amount of omega 3 and omega 6 and the ratio? I’m getting my omega 6 and 3 from avocado and olive oils and eating sunflower and chia seeds, fish and ground flax seeds and I’m trying to balance the ratio. I recently heard 1:1 is good from Dr. Mindy. The other question was what oil should I be cooking with for medium to high heat? I think the omegas get destroyed like with evoo and creates something worse, so going with something refined seems good, but then it’s the processed oil again, so I’m just confused lol. Thanks!

At about 10 minutes in, a thought hit me. Nobody is looking at the instability of these seed oils from long term storage (in store or home), over use such as fries being cooked in the same oil all day or too high of heat. Just yesterday my wife had some friend onion crisp things a person puts in top of the classic processed food version of green bean casserole. My 13 year old son constantly checks the expiry date and noticed it was 2018!!!! You talk about the human body's reaction to rancid oil? I opened that thing up, told my son to smell it. He recoiled so damn hard he tripped going backwards in horrified panic and fell down. Lesson complete.

I watched the whole program ! Your honesty and love for med. truth keeps me coming back for more knowledge. You can admit you were wrong when evidence proves you were wrong. I will continue to stay away from seed oil while the jury is still out. I am interested in your kind loving soul Elizabeth and your family. Do you know anything about receiving the Holy Ghost with tongues and being water baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ ? Religion is trying to hide the Apostles Doctrine on salvation from you. Acts 2:38 is the doorway to salvation taught by the apostles of Jesus the Christ ! “Few find it.” Mathew 7:14. “For what is your life ? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” James 4:14. 😊 You did well with this difficult subject. Keep up the awesome work Dr. Boz.

@@DoctorBoz This is the deep states ploy I believe. To fool people like this. No matter how I do it, anytime I consume highly processed seed oils, i have tons of issues. plus japan LA go up while sugar goes down, yet their disease rates are going up 😣 seed oils are the top 3 of most subsidized "foods", so I truly believe there is deep state ploy behind this. On top of this God not creating seed oils in nature as a standalone compound

From Microsoft Copilot: Is there any way to distinguish between omega-6 from seed oils and omega-6 from other sources before they are digested? Yes, there is a way to distinguish between omega-6 fatty acids from seed oils and those from other sources before digestion. This can be done using a technique called gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). GC-MS can analyze the fatty acid composition of a sample and identify the specific types of omega-6 fatty acids present. For example, omega-6 fatty acids from seed oils like soybean, corn, and sunflower oil typically contain linoleic acid, while those from animal sources like meat and eggs contain arachidonic acid. Studies have shown that only a small percentage of dietary linoleic acid is converted to arachidonic acid. For example, one study found that increasing dietary linoleic acid did not significantly increase tissue arachidonic acid content in adults consuming Western-type diets. So if a biopsy reveals that I have a lot of linoleic acid stored in my adipose tissue, it's safe to say that it most likely came from the digestion of seed oils then? Yes, that's a reasonable assumption. A high concentration of linoleic acid in adipose tissue is typically indicative of a diet rich in seed oils, such as soybean, corn, sunflower, and safflower oils. These oils are major sources of linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid. However, while it's likely, it's not definitive. Linoleic acid can also be found in smaller amounts in other food sources, such as nuts and seeds. But if your diet has been high in seed oils, they are probably the main contributors.

Perhaps the elevated linoleic acid in the blood of people you put on keto diets is due to saturated fat being preferentially used, leading to higher concentrations in the blood stream as they are no longer being used in tissues and cells. It may not be due to increasing the fill rate but rather decreasing the drain rate.
