The white flowered shrub is an azalea. They don’t bloom for very long, so it’s usually just a green bush for the majority of the year. But when they do bloom, they are spectacular! The pink ones are gorgeous too!
@pennylivingston148 Жыл бұрын
That is why I love my Encore Azaleas. They bloom twice a year and the fall bloom is very long. Mine have been blooming for about 9 weeks. (8a, coastal NC). Having said that, I have 5 of the older white azaleas that look just like the one in this video. They are all planted in a bed together, and nothing is any more spectacular than the old azaleas when they bloom. This garden is to die for!!!

@@pennylivingston148 I know it is silly, but it just feels wrong to have reblooming azaleas! Azaleas are special because they are glorious for a few weeks in Spring, we celebrate them, and move on. Having said that, my new landscape had only the encores when we bought it last year so I have them. For now.

My zone went from 8a to 8b which only tells me I really really am crazy to fawn over blue conifers. I live on the coast of NC so it is more often a question of "will it like our summers?" rather than "will it like our winters?" ...exception being plants that need high chill hours.

I enjoyed this video SO much! The 1st garden with its gorgeous azaleas and peonies, then The Enthusiastic Gardener's garden, which is absolutely stunning in every season! I'm amazed what Pamela can grow in the mountains--what a beautiful cottage garden! (I love the Sierras, but have always said I couldn't survive in the snow and her pictures reminded me just how true that is.😂) And ending with gorgeous Japanese maples in western Oregon. Wow! I'm still in zone 9b here, in Gilroy, CA. Of course, we can grow some zone 8 plants, (typically with a little babying, because my soil is rather gravelly and drains a little too well during our hot summer weather), but I loved seeing plants I can use with some confidence.

Hi Janey! I remembered you were complaining about a fly in your garden shed with you. To greatly reduce flies from entering indoor spaces, get some bars of Irish Spring soap, original scent. Hang the bar at the door on the outside by putting it in a cut up and tied leg of pantyhose. Flies hate the smell of it and stay away from the doors. We even it hang the soap at the opening of the dog door, so the flies won’t follow the dogs in the house. I get the Irish Spring and pantyhose at Dollar Tree here. I tend to replace these every spring and keep them up all year.

regarding your comment about deer getting into your garden beds, I have found ammonia works to deter deer, rabbits, and most dogs. I make a small flag out of a really absorbent cloth, attach it to a small stake, maybe 18 inches high (taller or shorter depending on the height of the critter), and then dunk the "flag" into ammonia and let it soak for a few minutes. I use bright red, yellow, or orange colored flag so from a distance they blend in with your flowers and are not too ugly. Be sure to wear gloves. I have tried every deer deterrent out there, and this one works for me and is not expensive. Refresh after heavy rainfall. I am so happy to have found this solution I just had to share it.
