My Dad would have loved this channel, I remember as a child over 60 years ago watching him magically repair a dead TV set back to life. And also reminds me that he used to always mention how as a child, he had built a crystal set radio with his own father. He could lend his hand to anything, car repairs, a whole high-fi system from scratch including the carpentry, handmade guitars, remote control boats plus steam train models and any home repairs needed. And what did I learn from him in that way, absolutely nothing, hopeless.

Sounds like you had a great Dad! I grew up without a Dad so I never really had anyone to teach me about stuff like this, I just took stuff apart and eventually learned how to put it back together! I'm making damn sure both of my kids have what I didn't although neither of them seem to want to get into electronics - I'm seeing a pattern emerging! 🤣

Yes I know, I so regret it now, but I was to busy watching TV, playing football or going out on little adventages with my crew. Something kids can't do today.

Great video Wayne, I’ve worked on quite a few of these over the years. Always thought the 30AX crts are excellent as I’ve never had a flat one in a TX10 or TX100 chassis. Great colours and brightness

I have a similar looking tx100. Lovely set, great sound on it too. Have to agree, Kenny was so clever and funny. Especially the radio stuff and his BBC TV show.

Saw this telly (or one very much like it) so much during my childhood :)

As I said in the video, is there anyone in the UK who's parents DIDN'T have one of these in the 80s?! 😁

Thanks for the Mention Wayne! That set has come up a treat! Almost seems a shame to use it as a parts donor.

Haven't even looked at the early Baird TX10 I got at the same time as this yet.That seems to be even rarer than the Supersound so you never know how this might work out!

Just what I was thinking too! The inside may be grotty, but who looks there?! I wonder of the top bulge could be disguised somehow.
@Knaeckebrotsaege9 ай бұрын
5:40 same thing here :D English warning is just "this is dangerous", German one instead says "pull the mains plug before removing the back cover" with no word about it being potentially dangerous at all. And with the same ß (sharp S, rarely used these days as you can just just substitute double-S in 90% of the cases) instead of an uppercase B, turning the word "abnahme" (either decline or removal depending on context) into nonsense. Backtranslated it would be acetaking (?!) with ace as in card games. But hey.. at least they tried :D Some German made sets from that era had warning labels only in German, or occasionally in German + Italian for some reason (?), but English was strangely absent unless it was an export set (which usually just meant it was multistandard out of the box, rather than optional). I remember that from the Telefunken PALcolor 6462J set I had as a hand-me-down during my teens in the early 00s. Another memory of it was the chassis that went almost the entire width of the set with barely any support (just outer plastic frame), causing massive bananaing in both directions and endless cracked solder joints. In the end I was so tired of resoldering stuff every couple months I just shoved multiple lego bricks under the PCB to support it... and it worked perfectly for years til a thunderstorm nuked it while I wasn't at home lol also I accidentally wrote a whole wall of text _again_ ... whoops
@MegaWayneD9 ай бұрын
Thanks for that! 😂 Hey, don't worry about leaving a wall text. At least it's not a rant about how 'Trump is great" and how I should "stay out of politics" like on my Meshtastic video!
@Knaeckebrotsaege9 ай бұрын
@@MegaWayneD Well to be fair I try to avoid political crap on YT like the plague. I come here to distract myself from all the BS I get bombarded with in real life (hence me ending up on a channel showcasing vintage TVs like the nerd I am), not see/hear more of it, so... ehh 🤷♂ That said, I'm not going around preaching what other people should and shouldn't do though because that's a waste of time and energy anyway, especially when it comes to political stuff which has a 99% chance of turning ugly _really_ quickly (in part "thanks" to the country I happened to be born in)
@MegaWayneD9 ай бұрын
@@Knaeckebrotsaege well, yeah it wasn't supposed to be a political statement anyway it was something I mentioned in passing. I also mentioned the environment amongst other things, just I don't think my sense of humour travelled well.
