As a Visionhire tv engineer we had loads of them on rental. I found the Pye 450 G11was more reliable than the Philips 660 version

I have to say thats a pretty impressive picture for a 45 year old colour tv I do like the PYE G11 over Philips version

I certainly recall the advertising campaign for the Philips G11 showing how good it was at receiving "distant"/poor signals, the picture showed a set behind the back of a Vauxhall Astra estate (van?) with the mains and RF leads disappearing in to the back of the vehicle and the tag line saying something about the set being taken all over the country. I owned a (second hand) set identical to this for around a week before selling it on.

"We took it everywhere so you could take it home" it was a Vauxhall Chevette estate I believe, the Astra wasn't to appear until 1980.

Who? I loved the G11. Especially in the 20" Philips with that weird tube with the eht cap in the corner. I knew all the stock faults. I'd love one again. I agree with you about the Pye versions , they seem to have lasted longer than the Philips.

I think there's only three actual Philips G11s that I know about that still work. I know of at least 10 Pyes!

Some Dynatron TVs used Pye chassis. The company was based in Maidenhead. Apparently not the easiest sets to work on. They did other stuff including radios, Hacker was also another British company, not sure if they did TV sets but they did high end radios.

@@mikecummings7054 Hacker portable radio the stalwart of UK TV Drama props department since the 1960s. Actors usually used the wrong control to switch it on/off.

This was designed specifically for the UK market, the "G" denotes Great Britain, like the G6, G8 and G9. It was also the last British-designed Philips chassis as it was an absolute disaster for Philips due to the issues with the smoothing capacitor and frame output chip socket. After this, Philips started using the K-series chassis in the UK and the Pye factory was sold to Sanyo.
