I'm finally playing tomb raider now and I don't think that it took Lara that long to become a badass. I mean she is pretty much a natural killer instinct predator wit a small terminator complex and man scared for life but she has fun I'm sure at least when she gets the Grenades she is like "yeah you run I'm coming for you"..

I hope modern Lara never gets as slick as classic Lara, the best part of modern adventure games for me is the flailing cinematic jumps towards or away from things (usually exploding or collapsing)

Oh by the way, Jane, there IS a LOOK button and there IS a SIDE-STEP that Lara can do in Tomb Raider II. I might also add that longer jumps need to 1- be done as late as possible from the edge 2- press “action” as late as possible as well, because the grabbing motion makes her go less far.

You could sidestep in Tomb Raider 2. I don't know what the controls are with a controller, but on PC it was Delete for left and Page Down for right.

You definitely should’ve done the TR3 assault course; it’s much harder and has the gun range and quad bike course.

On this assault course, you should stick to the left hand side for the most part. And you can jump off the end of the sliding part onto the climbing net and avoid the water altogether. And it saves a ton of time to jump forward, side jump, forward, other side jump and then forward instead of rotating.

theboy83uk If you're talking about 16:28 or 17:54, the game doesn't count them. If you look closely at the top of the screen where Jane's time is just peeking out, you'll see the timer is still going so that means she hasn't been disqualified. Those are actually the only two parts without water in the course where you're allowed to touch the ground.

Lara could actually sidestep and look, even in the first game in 1996 ... I remember for Look around I had to hold Num 0 key with pinky finger and use arrows to turn camera. Also sidestep was there by pressing Del and PgDn. End made her roll and instantly face the opposite direction. I do not know console controls though, I played it on PC only.

I played the Tomb Raider games from the start way back in the 90's. As much as this new trilogy looks amazing, gameplay wise it's far removed from the puzzle focus of the earlier games "the tomb raiding you could say". I realize it's a prequel and it's setting that character up, but she wasn't a Rambo style killing machine in the earlier games. Again a developer has gone for a Michael Bay vibe over substance.
