Luke, I can't remember if it's explained in the game but in the books there's a dialog between Dandelion and Geralt where he explains that after being alive for so long and having had so many horses in his career Geralt calls every horse of his "Roach" and tries not to get attached to them

On the other hand it was I think in the "Season of storms" that his current Roach gets stolen and Geralt is unhappy because it was a good horse and he liked that one

This is a pretty interesting witcher 3 x mass effect crossover: "I threaten them" "you pull out your sword and cut them both in half, looting their bodies for clothes while the rest of the townsfolk look on and weep... but at least you're not naked anymore!" 8:24 i know this is a very minor point, but just wanted to mention that the whole primary colors and stuff is actually very low fantasy, that is how a lot of people in the medieval period dressed (specially in the higher medieval period, 1300s and the such) which is also where you get a lot of the intricate armor and weaponry shown in the game. The leather-fur-muck combo is pretty much a fantasy trope... people have always liked to be muck free...

I can definetly recommend the Blood and Wine DLC because it has a quest where you get to talk with Roche and solve a mystery together. Hearts of Stone is also good value with a story so tragic it made me sob at the end.

I do have an appreciation for weather effects in games. I'm not fussed about the best graphics in the world but give me some good weather effects. Wind blowing through trees, different levels of rain, sun bursting through the clouds... physics and effects are hard and I really love it when care and attention are put to these things.

The 'losing your swords' thing from the Witcher choose your own adventure is like a reference to Season of Storms, where Geralt spends most of the book without his swords, and has to at one point kill a monster by stabbing it with a metal pole/pipe (can't remember exactly what it was, but certainly not an actual weapon)

I'm currently playing The Witcher 3, have been for about six months (with breaks to play some others) but must've sunk in at least 100 hours and I'm nowhere near finished. Only this weekend I finally got to both the whale graveyard and the quest with the 'ghost whale' and both times my wife was treated to excited yells of 'HEY I FOUND THAT BIT LUKE WAS TALKING ABOUT!' Amazing game, amazing books, let's hope that in a couple of weeks we're all treated to an amazing Netflix series.

Dante, though not his boss at the time), Tales of Vesperia (fight against Alexei), Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Galactus if you bring Silver Surfer), Twilight Princess (Zelda is technically Link's employer), Portal, Resident Evil 5 (Wesker), COD Modern Warfare 2 (Shepherd, though not much of a fight), Injustice (Robin v Batman), Metal Gear Solid 3 (The Boss). That's 11, but I'm sure others will pop up.

Boss Fights where you Fight your Boss? Not sure it counts, but in one of the last levels of Bungie's Oni, you have to get through a series of laser grid puzzles to get to your former boss, Commander Griffin. But he goes down in a cutscene. But you do get to choose whether or not you kill him.

As a Witcher fan, I would happily watch Luka talk about it all day. My favourite game of all time, just flawless in every main category. I always wanted an open world rpg but found the combat sucked in every one, so when Witcher 3 got announced I had to give it a go, and goddamn. Havent played it in ages but still think about it all the time. The music takes me right back to me very first moments of exploration

I always thought Roach was short for cockroach, but it is also a kind of carp. Thats why Roach can just chill under water.
