I know you're anime only but I HIGHLY suggest you read Chapter 0 of Jujutsu Kaisen. It tells the story of Yuta, the guy you wondered about, but it also tells of the 2nd years Panda, Inumaki ( cursed speech user ) and Maki as freshman. There's no spoilers for the anime because this takes place before Yuji joins. Reading chapter 0 will only give you a deeper appreciation for the side characters plus it gives a major ( & imo well done ) introduction to the antagonist. Remember that night of a thousand demon parades? Chapter 0 talks about it. Only reason I say read the manga is because the anime already mentioned this stuff so they won't show it.
