I love "the last ship" and hardly any other piece of music, let alone complete musical, has had a similar impact on me. The only time I felt similar was after watching "Brassed off" which is not dissimilar in its theme. Thanks to Sting, Jima Nail and all others involved in The Last Ship.

Wow what a pleasant surprise stumbling upon this live TV performance while channel surfing on Thanksgiving day. Thankful for finding this snippet from the show, and bonus that Sting will join the cast (for some 30 days)! Big Police fan here for years. I may have to get my butt from DC to NYC to see the show ASAP, I can't wait for The Last Ship! I need to SHOW SOME RESPECT!

Gad I DVR d the macy s show but here's one thing I noticed the macy parade is way to rushed for the performers to perform. And that really Pissed me off... however i did re wind and watch this performance over 3 times love the song and choreography. Quite powerful stuff !

I am brought here because there were protests to cancel the parade yesterday, which reminded me of the first year it happened, 2014. As I was both watching Twitter and the NBC feed this song showed up, and putting the two and two together it was Sting condemning the exploitive nature of the parade. "Show Some Respect" could have been a 21st century "Internationale" in this context, here is a famous British singer performing a pseudo sea shanty about the working class, the ploteriat in this situation against a now-97-year-old patriarchal institution filled with so-called lies about the Native Americans. I used to think 2014 was the 1968 of the 2010s and now I miss it, beats the dumpster fire of 2023.

Forgot to point out that this song obviously owes a huge debt to Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht. Why Sting should be parodying Weill and Brecht (albeit somewhat clumsily) is not clear.

This is rousing and fun but also seriously flawed. The pathetic "na na na" verse begs to be cut, and the chorus choreography is embarrassingly aimless. The rhyme scheme of the lyric is wildly inconsistent, and in two instances we have identities posing as rhymes: "and though we won't know whether it's fair or stormy weather", "if we're to pay invoices, we'll need to raise our voices". The accents are very often skewed as well. No cigar.

I guess the 16 Grammy award winner Sting must suck at writing music... *sarcasm*

Have you seen the show? It works better on the actual set and not the parade. Maybe judge it then. This is probably the best number in the show.
