Loma is way different than Martin. First, he's not going to freeze up in the corner, clamshell up and let his opponent go to task on him. He's also not going to let Tank play his game on him. Loma will set the pace and test the true boxing skills of Gervonta, which aren't much outside of throwing big power shots. Loma will have an issue closing the reach gap, but again, if he controls the rhythm like he has in his last two fights against Haney and Kambosos, then he controls the outcome of the fight. I don't see Tank dealing with Loma's pressure. But we need Loma in the same shape he was three weeks ago on May 20.

Frank decided he would stop retreating and stood in the corner just asking for the onslaught. Even though he had the foot work and the cardio to continue fighting on the retreat, he let the mind games play him. He was called a p&&&y at the weighin.

People who think Tank is being "outboxed" until he magically lands his equalizer don't really understand what's happening. There are many ways to employ boxing IQ. Conservation of energy and resources to get the most while expending the least is a part of IQ. Why move around throwing a lot of punches and being flashy if I can just pressure you, let you wear yourself out beating on my gloves while I calculate all of your tendencies, and then make you walk into the equalizer and have you out of there before the last third of the fight or even within the first half. Meanwhile, I take little to no actual punishment. Now, put Tank under adversity (like when he only had one hand against Cruz) and suddenly you realize that he can be a slick boxer if he wants to be and he outboxes a big punching, defensively sound swarmer over 12 rounds. He keeps it simple if simple gets it done but he's not restricted to simple if things get complicated. As he said in the post fight interview, "Smart people can play dumb but dumb people can't play smart".

@@Bilbilianaire I think the idea that he is "struggling" is really just a perception that, as good as he is, he should be pitching shutouts starting from the first round - basically the other guy shouldn't even be looking competitive. The truth is that, if you go look at the judges' scoring cards for all of the fights you named, he was ahead on the cards and winning at the time of the stoppage or KO. The indication is that he's not "struggling" - he's deliberately orchestrating the pace. It's why he called Frank a "frontrunner". Basically, someone who looks like they're pulling out ahead when things start but, in reality, he's being manipulated to sprint at the beginning of what is actually a marathon. Another indicator that this is his mindset is that he told Frank that he was going to take him into deep waters and drown him. He's not "struggling" so much as patiently implementing a plan. This is why the results have been pretty much consistent despite differences in styles and skillsets.

Age is gonna catch up with loma sooner than later given his fight style. Tanks got power and timing. But I don’t understand why so many people assume tank is gonna be as fresh and surgical the whole fight with loma in his face the whole time. Tank starts slow. Give loma 3-5 rounds to work and you’re not fighting fresh anymore. Timing that perfect one-hitter quitter shot becomes a lot more difficult after you’ve been 100 times and are being constantly pressured. Tank could stop loma with a well placed shot. But the longer he lets the fight go on the harder that shot is gonna be to find. And if he never finds it, loma wins on points hands down. Tanks used to guys slowing down. Even frank this weekend backed himself into a corner and stood there with his hands down and let tank hit him. You really think lomas gonna do that? Loma gets better as the fight goes on. It’s a good fight and I’d love to see it. But it’s hilarious to say tank wins automatically. If loma shows up at all he’s gonna make tank work for it.

I've been watching boxing since Ali Frazier 1. I had heard of Davis but I had never seen him fight until Pedraza. His combination of offense and defense, his poise, his punch placement and varied body-head attack, and (most impressive for me watching that fight) his methodical, almost surgical finishing style - I got chills watching it. I was like "who's this kid fighting like a 12 year veteran from the 70s"? As I watched him finish opponents from every conceivable angle with headshots and body shots and (most impressively to me) how he rose to the occasion with one hand against a hard charging, defensively sound, dangerous swarmer in Pitbull Cruz, I started doing something I rarely do. I started matching him up in my head with Duran, Mosley and Pretty Boy at 135. From what I'm seeing, he could hold his own in there with all of them. And I know what I'm seeing.

If its because Floyd has been holding him back or tank wasn't ready he still didn't fight top competition & has alot to prove. There have been a couple really bad clauses & not willing to step outside his comfort zone & avoiding Loma for years. It's not glazing time yet.
