I own both the MacBook pro and Lenovo Slim Pro 9i and both are good laptops. The negatives with the MacBook are that the screen is non touch, that you are stuck with the apple OS, and the ridiculous price. The Slim Pro 9i features an excellent screen, better than the MacBook in my opinion, 32GB memory, 1TB SSD. The only limiting factor is the battery life. In actual use I get around 4 - 5 hours versus 7 - 8 with the Mac. I think Andrew's comparison for the most part is spot on but I feel he gives Apple credit for a better display, touchpad, and audio. To me the Lenovo display is better and the touchpad and audio are equal. Also note that he took off points for the memory being not upgradeable but Lenovo gives one 32GB of fast memory as standard, which is more than 99% of users will ever use. Lastly, one has to consider price, I paid 1499 for the Lenovo while a similarly equipped Mac is 3000. Also, at time of purchase I couldn't find the Asus for less than 2000 and that was with 16GB of memory.

Constructive crits: link to your individual reviews in the description. In the individual segment scoring the circular bars didn't line up with percentages shown when they were evenly matched. I would also have preferred if you also showed each webcam in full screen after the direct side-by-side. Otherwise excellent! Finding that Asus OLED in Canada will be tricky...

Great Reviews Andrew! However, I just wanted to point out that you had ranked the Lenovo Slim Pro i9 above the Asus Zenbook Pro 14 OLED in the "Thermals/Fan Noise" category in their individual review videos and here you have ranked them equally. Also, you had ranked the Keyboard of the Lenovo over the Asus by a whole point in your videos where you reviewed them individually. Any reason for this?

Its so exciting how some laptops that are considered to be mid-range now are actually so much better than the premium ones from a few years ago, the laptops showcased in this video were STACKED, fully cranked up the wazoo, I wonder how much this technology is going to develop in the next few years. I bet processors are gonna have a huge leap forward, and the ram and storage too eventually. There isn't even a remote chance of me buying any of these, but its still very interesting to watch.

One thing to remember for those users who use any software that is made for the Windows operating system only then the Apple unit is of no use no matter how good its features are and the same goes for those users who use any software for the Apple operating system only then the Windows units are of no use no matter how good its features are. One thing to mention when you compare the apple laptops to windows laptops - the performance of the apple laptops stays the same when unplugged, while the performance of windows laptops drops 40%+ when unplugged. If someone’s use case for doing work requiring intensive processing of anything somehow involves doing it unplugged, apple is the clear winner. Otherwise, yeah, you can definitely get more for your money.

I need a 'multimedia' laptop that's excellent for photo, video, creative workflows but can also handle a lighter workload of all the things I do on my main system (light 3D work, gaming, game dev etc.). The Macbook is the best at what it's good at but severely lacks the versatility I require, along with being the most expensive. I'm not a fan of the Asus Zenbooks I've tested in store, and I need a brighter display than the 400 nit OLED panel. Of the three tested Lenovo Pro 9i ticks all my boxes, and I'm very likely to pick this one.
@firstspar

Yes I agree with you. The Lenovo seems like the best of the bunch. The only thing that leads me towards an apple (and likely an Apple Air model) is the battery and unplugged performance which matches its plugged in state. Granted, I would then be mainly using it for non-pro requirements. I don't think I am Windows bound by my requirements, but I have only ever used Windows so far and am hesitant to switch to apple for a device that most likely only be my secondary machine. I do need something to last a good 6hours of full pelt use on the road however.
@user-vw6bk4pb4l

@@firstspar Fair enough. My main laptop for the last 6 years was a Macbook pro. Apple is second to none in terms of reliability and power efficiency. The M2 Air 15 is the most appealing to me right now. I'll probably get one 2 years from now when the price drops.
@firstspar
@firstspar Жыл бұрын
@@user-vw6bk4pb4l that said. The lenovo can get 7/8 hours if set to power saving and 50% screen brightness. I think that is a fair trade off for not having to put up with macOS and having to switch between two OS again and again 😅
@user-vw6bk4pb4l
@user-vw6bk4pb4l Жыл бұрын
@@firstspar I wish there was an AMD option, they are more efficient. But there are many ways to improve the battery life. Reducing the resolution to QHD or FHD. Reducing the refresh rate (I don't care for higher refresh unless I'm gaming). Turning off the dedicated GPU when I don't need it (90% of the time). You can also play around with the mini LED and SDR options not sure which one saves more battery. Mac OS isn't bad. You'll get used to it. There's something nice about the simplicity, especially for a secondary device. i.e To uninstall a program just delete it, in one click.

14:13 macbook pro 14 starting price should $1999. Why you put $2899 there? $2899 is even enough for macbook pro 16. So the price score should be the same. 15:05 MacBook at the 2nd, because it gets 0 on the upgradability. So if you don’t upgrade your laptop, MacBook pro is the first with 20% lead.

Lenovo Slim Pro 9i also has a configuration with Intel Core i9-13905H and RTX4060/RTX4070, so in this case it probably should have the same score as Asus has, it also can affect the battery life, but not sure if it affects it in a better way. 😄 However great comparison, great quality, and graphic! The M2 is rather similiar to AMD chips on the same node when it comes to efficiency. Its the old x86 instruction set and much more overhead due to compatibility with other soft and hardware that makes in necessary for windows machines to work harder. Long story short the M2 seems more efficient and faster per clock cause it has to do a lot less. At the cost of heavy compatibility restrictions.

The only reason the macbook lost is because of the upgradeability it seems. It gained no points there and the asus gained 95 points. And even then there was only a 26 point difference. Not true. MacBooks do dominate the video production aspect due to better optimization, but 3D work is dominated by PCs with Nvidia dedicated GPUs. Even in gaming, AMD iGPUs dominate video game consoles and mini-PCs for gaming. PS5 and Xbox series X all use AMD iGPUs. Hard pass on the M2 MacBook Pro, unless someone is deep in the Apple ecosystem and making 100+k per year in income. For significantly less, the Asus and Lenovo slim provide more in most cases. Battery life, fan noise, and screen brightness still favors the MacBook. PC laptops win at CPU performance, display refresh rate, adjustable SSD, and ports. Most people work around 6 legit hours per business day, so 13+ hours of battery life isn't needed unless someone is attending conferences often. Screen brightness isn't a deal breaker outside of Southern California, Arizona, or other sunny areas. Thus, Asus ZenBook Pro is the best of the group if you don't have a deep Apple ecosystem setup.

For this reason R23 is absolute BS for comparison. R24 is doing a much better job utilising apple silicons features.(altough still not fully accurate) The M2max has 67billion transistors while a 7900x has 7billion...This alone is a massive lead. Can you please include R24 next times? Edit: r23 came out in 2020 thus it doesn't even include SVE and SVE2. No wonder we get such underwhelming results for apple silicon

It's a suggestion and not a hate. If the selection criteria is "Pro" in the name (which is strange TBH) then where is HP probook or samsung galaxy Pro. It is just hard to get a sense of real 14' powerfull laptop in the market without AMD chip, and IPS display in the comparison. Just Josh handled it pretty well BTW. For me it is still unclear are these are are only option if need powerful device? Is it because of how the look, is it a screen size, maybe dGPU is the factor. What is good to see is what customer decision this comparison helps to make? Seems like it is just Zenbook vs Slim Pro. If you do not care about windows or games you just go for mac. But if you not a "creator" and doing a real work (IB, engineering, software development, science, AI) you could be curious on what 14' powerful options are.
