This is incredibly helpful! I am 68 and had an accident (fractured vertebrae) test driving a 2 wheel Rad bike during a test ride. I’m determined to get an e-bike so I can enjoy the trails and scenic rides here in Southern California! It was very helpful to see your mom driving the trikes!

I have a Caddy Emojo Adult Electric Trike which is most like the Eneuro. I have had it for almost 3 years. I paid $2800 for it and I added an extra battery which brought my total to $3100. I really love it. I am 56 and it has helped me in so many ways. I can sum up in one word what it has given me: FREEDOM!

What I have learned over the last few years is to utilize the different pedal assist levels. When I go to church on Sunday, there is a very steep hill I have to go up. So obviously, I have it at Pedal Assist(PA) 5, the highest level. But I have the chain at the lowest setting. But when I am on level ground and in the bike lane, I usually have it at PA 3 which is really enough. That keeps me at 12-15mph. I get just under 20 miles on a single charge.

It's important to note that the Rad has a coaster rear brake and a mechanical front disk. I bought the Lectric for my wife because she can't pedal. The Lectric has hydraulic breaks front and rear which is important because she's not strong enough to operate a mechanical disk brake.

Excellent! I especially like how you don't overlook the stability issue on trikes. Others lacking integrity pass it off as a minor issue, but it's not, especially on cambered or rutted riding surfaces.
@EbikeSchool

Yes, if anything I should have made a bigger mention of cambered surfaces. That’s where stability is key.

@PBFoote-mo2zryes. 100% ..that's essentially the reason why the big manufacturers of gas powered trikes all have two wheels in the front. It keeps their customers safe(r) and it keeps their lawyers from having to do much work from lawsuits lol

No evaluation of e-assist trikes is complete without including those from major recumbent tadpole and delta trike manufacturers-Terra Trike, Catrike, Hass, and others. That would be a balanced review.

Electric has been running this 'sale' for quite some time but has not offered the trike without the packages which makes the 'sale' suspect. Note: I purchased it before the other trikes arrived for sale.
@Stryford1
@Stryford1 Жыл бұрын
My choice out of these would be the Lectric XP Trike. For the price, you really are getting the most even without the cargo package, but they are currently including it and the backrest for an even better value. It's awesome that the XP Trike includes hydraulic brakes which is not only great for low maintenance but also for stronger stopping power when you're carrying a heavy load without needing a powerful grip. The rear/mid mounted motor is also a cool idea. The rear track may be narrower than the RadTrike but I'll bet the XP Trike is much easier and faster to squeeze through doors when you need to.

Great rundown of all the features I admire on the Lectric XP. The R&D and component finishing on Lectric products show their commitment to the development of design and functionality in their product line. They aren't just picking out a lot of bikes in a Shenzhen warehouse and slapping their brand name on them.

Thank you for this. I have had the Addmotor m340 for almost 3 yrs. I wish Lectric had theirs at the time, or I would have picked theirs. I like the fact that it folds, has hydraulic brakes, parking brake and if I'm not mistaken, positraction. I think I may sell mine.

It has a split differential which is very helpful when turning as it allows the inner and outer wheels to spin at different speeds. This makes it safer on turns. Brilliant engineering and real value on so inexpensive a product.

Thank you for the well rounded video Micah. I used to mountain bike in my younger days, love to bike and live a life of simplicity and frugality that many of my friends seem to think extreme. I rode my mountain bike 4 miles to college in Michigan winters for years. 20 years ago I started finding my bike too painful and myself too unstable to ride it anymore. I switched to a Sun recumbent and could enjoy riding 20 miles again. but, I wanted an e-bike even before e-bikes were cool. Lately I can't seem to balance on my 'bent anymore (it's a different kind of balance than an upright). I have been drooling over the Rad bikes, but afraid to spend the money when I'm not sure I could ride upright again. Can't afford the Rad trike. And I want to take my grandkids with me so I need something that can haul a load. When the Lectric popped up on pre-order for a price 1K less than the competition (and I got a tax rebate) I jumped on it. It did feel unstable on the sloped side of my crowned street for the first two rides, then I got used to it. My GD loves it so much she rides it without the motor. So I got her a used Schwinn trike and got a used bike trailer for my GS. My dogs come along in the baskets. We are having a great time, and I love that I can go to the PO box, library, stores and friends houses without breaking out my Rav4 (which I only drive 3K miles per year since 2019). Since it folds, with help I can put it in the back of the Rav to go to trails. It weighs about 62 pounds with the aluminum frame (that would be the thing that you could have added to the video). I watched your video just because I want to make sure I made the best choice. I did. Thank you for the confirmation.😄

As of 8/14/24, Lectric is now throwing in the cargo pack and the seat back (what they call the support seat) with the purchase. For me, the hydraulic brakes helped me decide to go with Lectric XP rather than the Rad trike. Anyone with grip strength issues should keep in mind that mechanical brakes require a stronger grip to come to a full stop. Thanks a bunch for the awesome video comparison!

I would love to see a reverse trike or quad bike for more stability. Honda 3 wheelers had a well known flaw where they were comically easy to flip on a sharp turn, thus the birth of the 4 wheeled ATV.

I've just bought a very cheap used reversed e-cargo trike with a huge box on the front with a little door so children/dogs can enter and sit for a ride - I've taken out one set of seats so the dog has more room. It closely resembles the Babboe Dog E-cargo Trike if you fancy a look. Can't wait to try it out - servicing it first ❣️

Totally speed (and weight) related. You won't flip a delta trike. Tadpoles a bit more tippy but still nothing like a motorbike going 40mph.

I love my 20" folder but at 68 y/o my next EV will be a trike. In truth, I should be on one now as my daily commuter. I'm sure I will feel more secure in dense traffic, even with bike lanes. 15 mph is plenty on two wheels, perfect for three. This demonstration has sold me on the Lectric XP. The mid-drive/rear axle configuration is the only way to go. The torque must be applied to both wheels at or behind the CG for even traction. Loading the torque to the steering wheel in a tractor configuration just doesn't work. Thanks for the demonstration. Love to your Mom!

I have stage 4 cancer and walk 4 miles for groceries. At one time I loved it but every day it’s harder and harder. Living in a small town has its challenges with no transit service but you do what you do to enjoy the country life. I’ve been looking at these bikes for sometime now trying to figure out which would be best for my needs. I was leaning towards the lectric with a high back seat and baskets . But it seems every time I look up the prices go up and up I can’t keep up with them. I mean really people we’re not millionaires. Well not all of us I live on disability lol that’s far from being a millionaire.

Love your comparison content on the best E-trikes available. I have been looking and comparing the same E-trikes myself and I like the Lectric E-trike the best. I'm an older gentleman of age 61 wanting to get out and go do things like, exercise while going to the grocery store or to just get out of the house. I take care of my mother who has spinal cancer and who is 82 years old and bed ridden. I have some help with getting her cleaned up but it's been very demanding for me to take care of daily needs for laundry, cooking and other necessities. I'm disabled myself and I feel that I have no place to go Just to have a little break. I live on disability but there isn't enough for me to save $$ money for the Lectric E-trike that I want to buy. Keep on keeping on 👍👍

Hell yes, I am 83 & I own two, yes 2, of those “dangerous” E-Trikes, if you cannot adapt you will tip over, you Will be injured & it would be rider error. I love my Addmotor M-340 of 3 yrs, and my other love is the Evelo Compass, they are as different as night & day, so just pick one, don’t over think it, the down side is the goat heads & flat tires and the local bike shops are absolutely NO HELP at all, the minimum wage, gov free Money, grants, is way too much & is driving the cost of labor way up in bike shops, prices are outta site. Nothing never goes wrong with my 2015 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet 6spd, (now that thing is a complicated precision made piece of machinery) and I drive it hard, my entire life is about the fun, no grief, no misery. NOTE: The haters hate the fun people, haters will come for you, JESUS knows Trump is a fun guy, look what the haters are doing to the fun guy, the man who earned his money as a builder of luxury & beautiful structures, Trump even created a beautiful family with of course GOD as his savior. Hi! I’m way late in the e-bike scene and only today (8/10/2024) came across your channel. I really appreciate all of the information you’re giving to those of us who are newbies to the e-bike world. This video was particularly helpful. I will be 75 this month👵🏼, and haven’t ridden a bike since around 1980! Also, I am a really short lady, with my lack of length being in my very short limbs; so, I’m concerned about fit of the trike for me. I’ve been drooling over the Lectric trike for a year, when I first came across etrikes and saw a video with the three young guys who designed it. I was very impressed by them. I saw the trike that was on your left, or one just like it, at Costco about a year ago, and it was HUGE!! WAY too big for me! Then I saw a man riding the Lectric in our neighborhood, and it looked much better for me. I’ve never heard of the Rad trike in your video, and it looked as if, from a size pov, it would likely fit me as well as, if not better than, the Lectric Trike. I have just become a Subscriber on your channel, cuz I know that I will learn a lot from you and with knowledge comes confidence! I need that after not having ridden a bike since the last century! 😉 As soon as I can save up the money to get serious about getting a trike, I’m also going to be getting your books! Thanks to both you and your mom for this helpful video!

Hello As a 74 yr aged man, I use trikes as my primary transport. I find that motor controllers fail often. This is due to poor connections and design. Since I am disabled, PAS is too hard for me. It must be disabled. Pedaling all of the time when going 16-20 miles hurts. Additionally shock adsorbing front forks and seat post are necessary. Finally, to avoid being a target on the road averaging 15mph is necessary to limit time on the road. So, you need to be able to sustain 20mph to average a 4 minute mile. I have been riding trikes for ten years as primary transport. Regards

Am 88 and just purchased the Lectric XP. Unfortunately the left rear fender arrived bent onto the wheel so bike is unusable. Purchased an electric trike so I can strengthen my legs. Hope we can get this fixed soon. Do not drive anymore and walking doesn’t strengthen the legs. Would love one of your books. This is an excellent review.

I hope this is ok. I don't need a trike for myself but my dad could use one. He has always been very active and he still walks several miles a week. He just turned 84 and has stopped driving because of health issues. He still goes to the store which is a little over half a mile round trip but is bummed that he can't carry as much as he used to. The trike would definitely allow him to get all he needs from the store and allow him to get back to some of the nearby parks he loves so much. Thank you for your attention.

I think that it’s time we look at trikes differently. The tipping hazard is just too great for me to put a love one on. Turning on a steep grade or while moving is to muck of a factor. If there was some way to mechanically build a lean into the frame to prevent or greatly decrease the tipping, I wouldn’t hesitate to put my mother on it. Also love the rear wheel drive mechanism.

Amazing how fast algorithm works after doing google search.Myasthenia gravis hit hard at 58 and quickly took biking, hiking, skiing,walking through museums, playing the flute, walking up steps, breathing easy. Have regained ability to walk to the corner and back 4 times in a row but that's not enough to go around the block or to the store a block away in this dying town where everything I want to go to is within 8 miles. Only problem is that I really want to walk the dogs on this, fearful about a side jerk pulling it over. Also your mom looks tiny, I am 6'1. You don't mention how it goes in cold or rain.. midwest weather can change so fast. I can save to get one if it pans out to be something that goes through standard door and meets all my needs

I am really glad I got to see this. At 63, I am starting to think that an electric trike would replace my car. We have two cars and mostly in retirement now I only do shopping and going around to see friends close by. I think in the future a trike might be useful for doing food shopping about 3 to 6 miles away.

This video has really helped me understand more about the trikes. My daughter and my brother both want a trike and asked me to do some research. My daughter has vision problems, and she can't drive a car, my brother has no vehicle for transportation and is disabled also. I'm trying to help them out. Thank you for your the video.

I'm 65 and wanted to get a 3 wheel electric bike with a basket for my dog for a long time, but they are way to costly. If I ever play and hit the lottery or I ever get real lucky with bingo I will try to get me one. Thank you for all the good info because it answers questions I had incase that day comes to shop around. Love the scenery you picked for this video. Beautiful❤

Something to keep in mind with some of these trikes, different sized front and rear tires means you have to carry 2 different sizes of inner tubes, not that they're all that big, but if the tires are the same size, you would only need to carry 1 tube. I'd buy the Lectric Trike...its narrow to fit through doorways, its more designed for older people with mobility issues....the rear wheel drive is a huge plus, you have better traction at the rear wheels than you ever would on the front. I just bought a Lectric XP Lite....its ok, range is of course an issue as it has a very small battery. I've been riding it back and forth to work this week, so far so good....the round trip is 8 miles...still have about 1/2 to 3/4 of the battery left depending on how much I pedal LOL. They're good bikes, and if you ride a lot I'd highly recommend getting one of the bikes with a larger output battery, or one with dual batteries. I do not have any of the cargo stuff on my e-bike yet....I need to order the rear rack and large basket, which of course went on sale a couple days after I ordered my bike. I'll buy a set of saddle bags as well, which I should be able to install on the rear rack. Not sure if I'll use the basket all the time, but we shall see what I end up liking better LOL.

I currently have a Lectric XP 3.0 eBike, and I love it, but my only gripe is the location of the key to turn the battery on and off. And if anyone doesn't know, the key to turn the Lectric ebike on and off is located under the frame of the bike, which means you have to bend down (or even kneel down) to access the key to turn the bike battery on and off, which is very awkward. And sometimes I forget to turn it off because it's not in a more obvious location (like on the side or the top). And if Lectric had designed their ebikes where you didn't need to have the key to be physically be in the battery in order to turn the battery on and off, then you wouldn't need to have the key in the battery all the time (for example, with the Aventon ebikes the key is only needed to lock and/or unlock the battery to/from the bike frame, and not to power on the battery, and their key is insert on the side of the frame). So my point is, my 80 year old uncle wants to purchase an e-Trike, and although I love the Lectric brand, but if the location of the key to turn the bike battery on and off on their e-Trikes is also located under the frame of the bike (just like their Lectric XP 3.0 eBike) then this e-Trike would not be a good choice for him or any senior who has problems bend down?

Bought my Lectric XP trike Nov.'24. The battery STAYS ON with the key removed!! The key is turned 90 deg clockwise only to REMOVE the battery. You DO NOT need to leave it in to run the bike! A spring lock inside returns the switch inside to the vertical ON position when the key is removed!! Call LECTRIC & talk to service!

I notice that only the Addmotor has front suspension. I have the Emojo Caddy pro which I swapped out the seat and installed a parallelogram seat post which made a big difference. The only thing about the trike is that the front suspension had to be replaced at 680 miles and it was out of warranty. If I had to do it again I 'd get the Addmotor.

Do you think there will be a point where these manufacturers will be more concerned with waterproofing these bike and components. I feel like with the range that these are starting to be capable of and parking situations at stores or places of work they could commonly get stuck out in the rain. Be it commuting or parking during work.

Great review, thank you! I wonder if having the pedals further forward compared to the seat makes these (the ones with wide seats) better in longer rides. I am concerned with rubbing on the inside of the legs with seats so wide. Also, the front suspension on the Admotor is a bit excessive, considering the large tires and the fact that it's not the most stable vehicle; maybe I'm very wrong on this one.

I am 68, and I don't want to drive anymore are be responsible for the cost of a car. I asked my children to get together and buy the lectric track for me. I have medical condition that cause pain if I walk to much. My children refused. Now I am in process of trying to figure out how to get the bike on my on. And with fixed income it is hard. I need a miracle from God. The only places I go is my church doctors offices the store and maybe out to breakfast or lunch. All within 1-3 miles form my home. The only time I Travel is on the bus airline or with someone else. I really do not need a car just a simple form of transportation the if I chose I can take it with me. Thank you for this video I got a lot of information.

G'day Micah, thanks for another great review. I've got a customer who is disabled and she has an electric trike which she loves because it gives her a degree of independence that she wouldn't otherwise have. By the way, I noticed that some of your videos look like they were filmed in Israel. What is the ebike scene like over there? Cheers.

I was making those trailers before rad was. It's just a bike trailer that you normally tell kids around in. You just take the top of the frame off and you got a trailer. All they did was tack weld a little railing around the barrier. I've made them custom made with fishing rod holders and another one for construction worker turned it Andrew's giant rolling tool box behind his e-bike I've made and sold them down here in Florida for over a decade

Nicely done! Looking at these now for my wife, in her early 70’s and never learned to ride a bicycle. Thought I was doing a great thing years back buying her one that has now been gifted to the grand kids. arrggg… on my ignorance. We have rented a random and it was real fun for her, I was having fun because she was. So now.. this might work. She is tiny, so these behemoths intimidate her and if I am not with her.. well it will sit. That RAD is interesting size and stability wise, but the lectric is certainly more appointed.

You never said what the load limit on these things are. Most of these manufacturers don't advertise how much the products can carry. I am looking for a good trike to use at work. Some up hill, and some off roading ability would be nice. Foldable would be wonderful as well. Mostly I need it to be able to carry me 250lb, and about 100lb to 150lb of stuff.
