Two years after the original Baldur's Gate in 1998, BioWare released its much lauded direct sequel in the year 2000. This is Beamdog's 2013 remaster of that game. The adventures of the Bhaalspawn and Team Bald continue just shortly after the events of the previous game. The events within Shadows of Amn and its expansion Throne of Bhaal would come to be renowned as one of the greatest and most foundational roleplaying games of all time. This playthrough continues with the same character as was used in our BG1 and SoD playthroughs, and similarly begins using the "Core Rules" difficulty setting. Expect new videos nightly.

A stumbling block for the writers of BG2, which bothered me as a young D&D nerd, is that some of their writers never bothered to learn that there are multiple 'hells' that do not overlap in the lore. The Abyss is the abode of demons and chaotic evil souls after they die. The Nine Hells is the abode of devils and lawful evil souls after they die. They are not the same and do not get along, to put it mildly, as you will learn if you ever get around to Planescape: Torment. The seven deadly sins are pride, wrath, gluttony, greed, envy, sloth and lust. There is some overlap here, but these trials won't match them one to one. Keep an eye on your alignment. This is one of the few places in these games where it can change, and always for the worse, if you give into temptation.

56:02 A few of your tactical choices are kind of sub-optimal, but this one above all has been puzzling to me. You have Abi'Dalzim's Horrid Wilting, an 8th level spell which is the most devastating AoE spell in the game. It hits enemies for 1d8 damage for every spellcaster level, going up to 20, meaning you can do between 20-160 damage. It also causes no friendly damage, meaning it doesn't matter who gets caught in it. And yet, time after time, it sits unused in favor of Fireball, a 3rd level spell which can, at absolute best, do 60 damage. It also causes friendly fire. It's not like it matters. You're playing vanilla, so there's no need to learn any optimized tactics are anything. But it feels like such an odd choice to keep falling back on that one spell.
