I'm curious to know how this fix has held up. Super glue on the end is just transferring the failure point to the weaker paint or drywall paper and the dowel similarly will dig it's way down through the drywall if the rod isn't fully secured. To install these things properly you need to extend them as much as you can, and wedge it between the two walls. Then you tighten the screw on 'feet' at either end. You could add some thread locker to those to keep them from twisting once they're tensioned against the wall. I wouldn't trust any glue or fasteners to do the job unless it's the screw in type anchors with minimum two drywall anchors per side, but preferably into a stud. There are also little cheap collars you can get that screw into the wall and cup the ends of these screw/tension style rods to hold them once they loosen up

Why not just let it set on top of the tub/shower wall instead of buying the extra items?

Considered that, but the shower curtain then drags on the floor if lowered too much. Could buy rings that don't hang as far or a shorter shower curtain, but that would be extra items - I had all these supplies already in the garage.

The curtain just pops off the individual clips. No need to take down the rod to remove the curtain.

Wait, that's a thing? lol. Good question, actually. When that time comes, I think I'd gently use a paint scraper to slide behind both rod ends to break away the glue. Any damaged wall can simply be patched and painted. If you did my fun dowel idea, just make sure the hole you drill in each rod end (for the dowels to fit in) is large enough so the dowel can easily slide in and out. Good luck!
