An explicit function is one which is defined in terms of y=f(x), meaning that the equation is structured in a y equals form. An implicit function is one in which the equation is not defined in y as it equates to x, but rather structured differently. Like for example, y-xy+3=x is an implicit function. You have to solve for y.
