8:10 This one is actually a hybrid between Aloe maculata and Aloe striata called 'Ghost'. You can tell because the colored margins are serrated or "toothed" and not "entire", like ribbon. Nice group of aloes, regardless.

The healing alo is AMAZING. I was having an allergic reaction to something and i whiped it with aloe and IMMEDIATELY the swelling and welts went away. Also helps when earphone buds irritate my eardrum. Just a little on an ear cleaner and just around the opening (not inside)-immediate relief.

Wow great garden. I'm new to Aloes. I just got some nice hybrids. I got one called Christmas Sleigh. What is the difference between that and Christmas Carol? Are they the same? Your collection is lovely and amazing. Could you show a wider shot of your birdbath aloes and explain how to make one? I have a stone bird bath that just evaporates all the time and isn't being used. Would be nice to give it a new purpose.
@WhatPlantisthatPaul
@WhatPlantisthatPaul 4 жыл бұрын
Scary Fear Thanks! I think they are very similar, but I don’t have a Christmas Sleigh yet! It’s actually a fountain I turned into a succulent fountain. As long as there is good drainage, a bird bath should work fine. You may need to drill some holes for drainage.

Awesome! We are lucky to be able to grow so many varieties of plants in our region. I don't grow any aloes inside and thought the winter would be more destructive to aloe in Texas than the summer. Thanks for the information and comment.

@@WhatPlantisthatPaul I live in Austin, South Texas almost with lots of wet clay soil during winters and extremely dry during summertime, and it barely freezes here, probably 9% of chances after February. Winter are usually mild here in the South of Texas, but summers are hell, extremely hot with high humidity and those are 3 months of hell for me. Here we grow a bunch of Agaves that can grow up to 9 ft tall and we grow that Texas cactus pear that spreads all over the place, there are over 4000 species of plants for Texas i would say. I am still learning on the Texan flora as I moved from France not that long ago.
@WhatPlantisthatPaul
@WhatPlantisthatPaul 4 жыл бұрын
@@stevenrix7277 That is so rad! My wife went to TCU and I've visited the area... I hope to visit Austin someday. Many aloes and most succulents are not root dependent. You can grow aloes successfully outside under 30% shade cloth or under a canopy of trees. In pots with good drainage and cactus potting soil, you can grow hundreds of varieties of aloes outside but your native soil (without amendments/ Perlite, etc) may limit your varieties. If you live in zone 9a, we are very similar... Zone 8b is more limiting. Wind may be another factor, but not so much with some aloe varieties.

How do you prevent tips from browning or drying?
@WhatPlantisthatPaul

Good question. It seems like intense sun or cold can damage the tips, but as they get older and more mature, it seems to happen much less often to mature specimens in my yard.

Bummer they are so sensitive... I've seen many healthy plants in San Diego county. They will do better under a canopy of big trees in your area or a part sun environment. Hopefully they aren't too big to move. Good luck.

Funny, you pointed out how not all aloes are beneficial like aloe vera, when you were showing the variegated form of aloe arborescens.....I recently discovered that aloe arborescens has over 200 times the beneficial compounds than aloe vera has!! Super WOW!! Many rare forms are used medicinally in the villages where they are limited to as well. Amazing plants!! I may have a few rate varieties that you don't & am up for trades!!! I'm in San Diego and we have a mutual friend that recommend your KZbin channel to me last year.....I just don't remember who it was now! Feel free to hit me up in Facebook~ Haze Robinson 👍🏻

Hey neighbor!! I'm in coastal SoCal, too! SUB'D!!! FYI... your plant at about 7:50 (right after your Aloe arborescens) might be Aloe aculeata if it isn't Aloe marlothii. A. aculeata also has the white nubs where the dark spines originate from. Those two, along with A. ferox, at certain stages of growth, are oftentimes confused with one another. BTW, your Mt. Elgon is a BEAUT!! Would you be up for a pup swap?! I'll contact you on fb.
