Some of you may, or may not know, that, prior to the introduction of dollars and cents, February 14, 1966, Australian coin of the realm was pounds, shillings and pence, of which I show in this video. I hope you enjoy. Thank you. 🙂

I love coins,too. The few times I've traveled out of the country,I would get plenty of a foreign coins for the young son of a friend. How he loved these. Liked the silver coin in the xmas pudding tradition. Wish we had the metric system for consistencies sake.
@JohnHampton
@JohnHampton 6 жыл бұрын
I had a real interest in coins when I was younger but not so much now. The traditional Christmas pudding loaded with silver coins was exactly that when I was kid - traditional. Remember mum making them, too. Ah, the memories. Oh yes, the metric measuring system is so much easier than imperial. Just as long as you're not the type who tries to convert metric to imperial, as someone I know, but will remain anonymous - does. 😛🙂👍

Wow petrol is very expensive. We run out car on gas which I think is 90 cents a litre. Loved seeing the old money!
@JohnHampton
@JohnHampton 6 жыл бұрын
Petrol here in Coffs is dearer than most other towns and cities in N.S.W., and it's all to do with a so-called demarcation line between Grafton and us; the result of which (according to the suppliers), is an extra 20 or 30 cents a litre. Go figure, eh? Thank you. Old money that actually had real value by today's currency standard. 🙂👍
@fralinsandfriends
@fralinsandfriends 6 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed seeing those. Coin collecting is a big deal here if you're into it. There was talk of phasing out the penny, but it hasn't happened yet. I wonder what your currency looks like today and what the values are. Maybe another time.
@JohnHampton
@JohnHampton 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I was into it decades ago then I simply lost interest. The one and two cent coins were phased out 20 years ago, as were the one and two dollar notes, replaced with coins. Now there's talk of phasing out the five dollar note and replacing it with a coin. I'll record and upload a video showing our decimal currency in the not to distant future. Cheers. 🙂👍

The old currency was real money, and today's is just play money by comparison. You have the euro as well, yes? Took Aussies a while to get used to decimal currency, as it did with the metric system. However, Gail always tries to convert metric measurements to the old imperial, regardless how many times I have tried to convince her how much easier metric measurements are. Oh well, that's a woman for you. Ciao. 🙄😆👍

$30 for a pack for cigarettes which is the most absurd highest price I`ve ever heard of, $1.85 for a liter of gas ($7 a gallon U.S) and strict gun control. No offense intended but I`m glad I don`t live there. I love you Mr. Hampton. :)

No offence taken. Still, there has been not one school child murdered at school by a psycho brandishing a handgun or fully-automatic assault rifle, or both, here in OZ, in the entire history of our country. No offense intended, but I'm glad I don't live in the U.S.

I'm not anti-gun in any shape or form, but I do consider the ease of acquiring handguns, automatic and semi-automatic rifles, and military type assault weapons, so on and so, is way too easy in the U.S. I would like very much to be able to buy some of the above mentioned, but I'm glad I can't, as oxymoronic as that may seem. 👍

@@JohnHampton Hello John, I`m sorry for taking so long to reply. Once again I haven`t felt all that good and sometimes I don`t feel like typing. I hope your health is good or at least the best it can be for our age. I noticed in your past couple of videos your voice was somewhat hoarse or scratchy, I hope that`s getting better. I care about you my friend. Today is one of the rarer days (which is becoming more often) that I have felt like replying. I know you are not anti gun but I don`t see how you figure it`s so easy to aquire "handguns, automatic and semi-automatic rifles, and military type assault weapons" as you say. For the law abiding person it`s really not that easy at all. Granted I can buy (gun parts, ammo and magazines) through the mail, at least in my state but in order to obtain an actual firearm I have to go through a strict regime of taxation, a background check, Federal Firearms Licensing forms and fees (but not a waiting period as in some other states). Last month I waited the entire month to take a hunter education course or a law enforcement safety course (which ever I chose and had already done in the late 70`s but wasn`t on record anymore)...I sat there for 8 hours listening to bullshit that no criminal would ever endure. All to get my concealed weapon permit. AFTER THAT I have to go to the courthouse and pay another $50 for ANOTHER background check (that I paid for when I bought my gun) but I`m lucky that I live in Virginia which is a (shall issue state) meaning if I pay my fees and pass my checks they cant turn me down. Some states are (may issue states....meaning you have to give them a good reason) and some states are ( non issue, meaning no way in hell are you going to get one). That`s just for normal firearms. It gets worse. If you want a silencer, a short barreled rifle there are a whole nother set of rules, taxes and stricter rules amounting to about $250 dollars and a much longer waiting period.. If you want a machine gun then it gets really bad and the price increases to a minimum of $20,000 and a several year waiting period a much much stricter background check and the FEDS watching over your every move. This is a nutshell explanation. So would you please explain to me how you figure it`s so easy for a (LAW ABIDING CITIZEN) to obtaing these weapons so easily? I`m not seeing it brother. Now if you are a criminal or an illegal alien on the other hand, these laws and rules don`t apply to you here in the U.S. You see? This is the problem...the rules only apply to the good guy. And I have news for you man...those rules aren`t so easy...as you say. Anyway, I love you John Hampton, I enjoy your videos and totaly respect your opinions. BTW I almost forgot. That professional voice artist thats done commercials and a few of my stories told me of a publishing company you may want to look into. I know nothing about them but it surely wouldnt hurt to check. He seems to think highly of them, and I trust him. Said what? What did I say? Was it about forgetting things? If it was then what happen to you and your friend is completely normal in my book. Completely and utterly normal. And I did enjoy the short rendition. Brought back a lot of memories of me doing the same thing. Dad and Dave, kind of thing. Dad and Dave were an Australian comedy duo going way back to radio days before TV, just in case you were wondering. Old folks home? Are you nuts. Me in an old folks home surrounded by old farts spooning porridge into their pockets without the slightest idea that they are doing so? I'd go berserk in an hour. Totally flip my lid, I would.
