It shows off the shape of hindquarters and it looks neater. Personal preference really. You're pulling out the short hairs at the side of as she said about 2/3rds down their dock.

@Horsepassion4life I would imagine the clipper way is 'nicer' to the horse and good for horses that object to pulling but will grow out in the 'brush' look. You would have to do it often. Pulling when done with patience isn't much different to regular eyebrow plucking or fluffy dog ear plucking annoying at first but soon you get used to it. Done right it looks polished and grows out less awkward :)

doing this with clippers isnt the best job. when it grows out it looks awful and all different lenghts of hair and looks so messy compared to if you pull it by hand

Hey, thats sounds like such a nice horse! I use washing up liquid on my horses socks make sure you wash with water when your finished for the day, nothing will happen it just cleanses the skin, mix about 2 tablespoons of washing up liquid with around a jug of warm water and apply it with a sponge onto the socks ;) washing up liquid...its our little secret. ;) believe me I ride dressage and showjump everyone I know uses it. ;) also good luck with your shire!

Oops sorry forgot to mention lol, mix another batch of warm water with a tablesppon of washing up liquid and apply to a cloth to clean the blaze, and with the socks its a good idea to get a hose or bucket of water and quickly rinse the legs and blaze before (shampooing) with this mixture, make sure that the cloth you apply to the face is not dripping wet, fairly damp with the mixture but not dripping because you don't want a horse crying you got soap in his eyes. ;)

there is so much detail in showing, from trimming the whiskers, to braiding thr mane, and pulling/cutting the mane and tail, to whitening the socks, and cleaning tack! phew my horse does not appreciate my hard work! lol also could anyone recoomned a good style for mine, he's 17.3 hands and a welsh cob section c x throughbred, with 3 white socksand a blaze on his crest hes also a deep bay/blacky colour.

One question , What is the point of this like what are you pulling? Frizzes or ???? ive never done THIS to my horses tail what excatly is its purpose?

then pull there tail mildly, keep a good thickness adn rather full, do not shorten it to this extent, im guessing this horse if her was competing was either going to wear a tail bandage or not, no plaiting, a braided mane and tail is complusary in hunter, so I like to keep my horses tail rather full, shaped, but thick, so i might actually start pulling a month before the comp so it grows out but keeps the shape. ;) if in doubt don't pull it out!

for my horse it only take 10 months for his tail to grown about 10 to 15 inches

I am required to braid my horse's tail for horse shows, so would there be any point to me pulling? I feel like it might be harder to braid if it was pulled...opinions?

YesImmaCowgirl If you plan to braid, DO NOT pull! It will be impossible to get a tidy braid down the dock of the tail if you have very short hair there. There are many fantastic videos on tail braiding here on KZbin.

then don't pull it. Tail pulling is more of something they do in the uk with their show horses, it's not seen in american hunters nearly as much. The british hunters don't plait the tails

Tail pulling would mainly be done on dressage horses in the US.
