That looks very much like your diesel volvo geoff, diesel is cheaper than petrol in the eu so you should do ok, I know the charge infrastructure in alicante is not good as we had a plug in hybrid when we went to our apartment last year, So you might just spend less on diesel the lee is on driving around looking for a charge that actually works, take care you two and your family, enjoy the trip, 👍👍👍👍

I think you can take 20% off from the EV for the reserve at which the driver start to have to look for a supercharger and another 10-15% off for driving french motorway speeds even with the adjustments to preserve range. For the petrol, I'd probably remove 10% for the age.

I had a Volvo V70R and can attest to its handling power and luxury. I had a brief incident with some bikers that were trying to force me off the road, and although we were doing some 160 Kmh I could not loose them. In the next long straight stretch I accelerated and when I looked at the tach noticed I was still in 5th gear near red line, and then noticed that the speedo showed 280 kmh. And all this was effortless. The biker incident came to an end with the help of our RCMP and the car continued to work well for me. My only concern was the cost of small pats (in Canada it would cost me $1000.00 for a headlight bulb and ballast and this was killing me). I traded the Volvo for a BMW (Really bad move) I would definitely buy a V70R again if one was available.

Don't forget Geoff - Lee should be adding 21p per mile to his total trip costs because he's blown his contract mileage. That's £236 or thereabouts. Don't let your conclusions video go out until you've added that cost in against Lee's charging costs!

​@@G58Lee told us the other day when he took the Taycan to Porsche Leeds to have new battery cooling fans and front tyres fitted. He's exceeded the contracted mileage by 21,000 miles over the two and a bit years he's had the car.

Also pence per mile (PPM) on service costs, tyres, tyres etc. and to balance it the same for the Volvo. Volvo should be about 3ppm as service interval is 18k miles or 2 yrs vs whatever Porsche charge.

Before getting a toll road tag, I used a bit of broom handle with a bulldog clip screwed to the end of it to deal with the Peage booths. It often got a laugh out of the girls in the ticket booths.

7:40 '40% charge in 12 minutes.' He's all giddy because it took him 12 minutes to get what is effectively less than half a tank of fuel lol. So that's 24 minutes plus a bit more, to fully 'fill up' so let's say half an hour to fill his tank. I could have filled up being 30 miles away before he's ready to set off again.

All this time his car was charging like a pos because of the fans lmao. They are depressing though these electric charging areas, they're always this horrible grey parking lots next to lots of noise and traffic. Now you never notice it at a petrol station because you spend 2 mins there.... but when you have to stand around for an hour it is horrible. They really need to move them away from the road and isolate the sound and make a nice garden or something to sit on.

He's bragging about the time it took him to charge but he's failing to mention that he got lucky at the chargers. More often than not they're occupied and you have to wait. And 12 minutes to fill up 40% isn't what I call fast. My petrol tank is full to the brim in about 1 minute and 20 seconds and I have a far longer range.

I hope your costs captured are forensic. Contract costs mileage on Taycan is 17.3ppm on a typical finance model. Plus charging, plus servicing/tyres/brakes pro rata. All of it, even if done fairly on the Volvo with good tyres/brakes/oil/filters will be very interesting.

My F10 6 cylinder diesel 4.5 l per 100km or 63 MPG at 62 mph. ZF automatic 8 gear.

Even if the journey is cheaper in the Porsche it's not telling the whole story. 1) Lee could have been delayed far longer if the charging points were occupied 2) Lee is a slave to Porsche's navigation route thingy 3) Geoff can get spare parts from a scrap yard 4) Geoff's Volvo is far more practical (try carrying a sideboard in that Porsche.) 5) Geoff fills up quicker 6) Lee has lost over a 100 thousand pounds since he bought that Porsche and it's losing value on a daily basis 7) Geoff will easily sell that Volvo because they have a cult following. He might even get more than he paid for it 8) This is subjective but the Volvo is way cooler. The Porsche looks like you're trying too hard. It just isn't cool. 9) The Volvo has lasted 27 years and it's still going strong. I wouldn't bet on that Porsche lasting 10 years. 10) Geoff will always find a buyer for that Volvo, Lee won't find a buyer for his Porsche

I had a lovely 1.6 Diesel Alfa Romeo Giulietta which was not found wanting for speed and comfort and would regularly get 70mpg on a run. That would have been a nice car to have done that trip in. My current Hybrid Renault Arkana which is 1.6 petrol is good for 62mpg in summer weather. We did a 640 mile round trip on one tank of fuel in that last year.

Would be interested in what the cost of petrol is at our motorway stations , just put in £40 for 27.8 litres which works out around 1.69 euros per litre from a local station. Bet you could get it cheaper if you didn't use the french motorway stops.
