That was great that she rode 3 horses in 5 rounds. Idk about England, but in the US it’s pretty common to have riders with multiple entries in the same class/same show. When I was about 10 years younger, I would regularly take my three horses to rated Hunter/Jumper shows that last 4 or 5 days. In the Hunters, which are judged on the horses’ style and way of going, there are divisions, each division has two jumping rounds of 8 or 9 jumps and one flat class where all the horses in the division go in the ring at once to be judged on who is the best mover at walk/trot/canter. The Equitation is judged on the rider’s position and effectiveness and usually has one jumping round of 8-10 fences and one flat class where all the horses go in the ring and riders are judged at walk/rising trot/sitting trot/canter/sometimes counter canter/sometimes no stirrups , and there are usually several different classes at each height in the Jumpers (the easiest is just a speed round, where there’s only one round and the winner is the one who goes fastest with no rails down; then there is the classic format of a first round of 8-12 fences which you have to clear within the time allowed. If you have a clear first round, you proceed to a jump off consisting of a shortened but much trickier course of maybe 6-7 obstacles…winner is the one with the fastest time in the jump off with no rails down; then my least favorite is power and speed, which is basically like doing a first round in the time allowed with the speed round starting immediately at a predetermined fence, so there are 20+ obstacles in the entire course. There is no stopping and readjusting for the jump off after the first round-you just keep going straight into the speed round, so there are a LOT of obstacles to jump with NO break to reorganize). I would usually show all 3 of my horses every day, each one in mutltiple divisions (sometimes multiple horses in the same division). Each horse is only allowed to do I think 7 jumping classes a day (not counting jumps you jump during the warmup for each class). With three horses at each show, I would end up doing at least 15 jumping classes each day. I think my record was a total of 27 classes done in a day (including the flat classes). Needless to say, I was in VERY good shape! I usually did Hunters and Equitation at the standard Adult level of 3 ft (which I think translates into about .95m?). The Jumpers are actually listed in meters. I would do anywhere from .95 to 1.15m classes. Each horse would generally do two classes at two different heights. So it was a LOT! But I’d rather do 15 two minute jumping rounds with breaks between than do a show jumping round and then go straight into a 10-15 minute non-stop XC course! THAT takes a TON of fitness! Also, I prefer my rails to fall if my horse hits them😂

It was fun to see how you manage such three different horses in an indoor show jumping arena. I thought that that would be the hardest to take around in there, but actually it was Kato. I don’t think I realized until I saw this blog how much bigger Kato is than the others. And the others are not small. Perhaps I missed it, but you said you tried a new bit on one of them. That was great! Good riding of all three horses in all classes! I think Kato’s problem in the 1.10m class is that he’s SUCH a big horse, and he doesn’t seem to jump well from the short distances (just judging off all of the videos of you riding him that I’ve been watching). He isn’t able to rock back and get out of his own way when you get in to a tight distance at a jump. He seems to prefer more of a gap. You probably already do this, but I find doing gymnastic grid work can really help them use their bodies better. It IS much harder to compress such a large horse though. He also doesn’t seem as careful as Max is with his legs. Max looks like a fun one to show jump. Honestly Kato might be a good one to go to the US and do the bigger Hunter classes and Hunter Derbies. He has a nice bascule, and the Hunters are generally asked to jump from a longer distance. He certainly has the scope for the Performance Hunters and the National Derbies here in the US…. But you did a great job on all of them! Just my opinion on what Kato might excel at (besides the XC). I wouldn’t mind having him myself, tbh! I don’t do XC, but I do compete in Hunter classes (as well as Jumpers and Equitation). As long as it’s a flat surface and the rails fall if we hit them 😂 I don’t have the courage to tackle XC, especially the higher levels. I look at the 4* XC jumps on your vlog and want to 🤢. No thank you!! Stuff of nightmares!

A really nice video as usual, but I was completely flabbergasted to see that in Great Britain you are alowed to put three horses in a trailer behind a normal car, in the Netherlands you can put one horse in and if you have a really heavy car you maybe can put two horses in, but three is completely out of the question!
