ShowKontrol to MA2 via MIDI over IP - No Audio Interface!

Getting timecode into the MA can happen one of two ways, either with an audio SMPTE signal direct into the back of a console in session, or with midi timecode (MTC) into an onPC station.
This method reduces the possibility of audio issues with SMPTE LTC since there is no audio involved at all. Simply connect the MacBook running ShowKontrol and a laptop running onPC together in a network, and you can get timecode in your MA session!

Haven't picked up ShowKontrol just yet, but iirc it's supposed to have a built in web server so other stations can see what's going on from a browser without necessarily needing a Mac at every station, as long as lighting and visuals are agreeing on standardized offsets for the timecode itself. The Ableton Link support is really intriguing for locking in beat-clocks when busking visuals as well since Resolume also supports Ableton Link.

Why not TCNet to LTC SMPTE into MA? You can use a 8$ Orange Pi Zero with out-of-the-box balanced out ;-)

In theory, I'd imagine this may be possible to achieve with one Mac system instead of a Windows machine and a Mac - running Windows in Parallels or another VM software might be able to replicate this?

Why are you not controlling resolume with MA? As far as I understood, you can have two timecodes fromm showkontrol... Cool would it bei if you could get these two timecodes into MA...

Nice setup, good idea. Do Pro DJ Link and MA-Net seem to get along with each other on the same switch, no glitches or other oddities? At 1 Gbps I would hope not, but who knows.

Yeah, I did something very similar for the lightshow I programmed for #robotspaceland at Vivid Festival in Sydney - I was using rtp midi and the MacOS Network midi to get MTC from Reaper running on a mac into a windows computer running onPC. I also had Showcockpit configured to control OnPC and Reaper (on the other computer) all from the one Apc40mkii. At the show, I had an MA2 fullsize using audio timecode/LTP for lighting, but I used rtpmidi/network midi to control the lasers and ledstrip which saved purchasing rare bespoke hardware that normally would be required for LTP.

I’ve found the apple network midi to be unreliable. Sometimes it’ll disconnect and troublesome to get it working again. Does work great when it does work though!
