Showtime's Classic Rock & Roll Reunion 63 with; Gary US Bonds, Lou Christie, The Coasters, Danny and The Juniors, Bo Diddley, The Del-Vikings, Lesley Gore, Ben E. King, Jerry Lee Lewis, Wilson Pickett, The Platters and The Shirelles, Hosted by Bruce Morrow in 1988. I recorded this program from the Spanish television when I was a teenager on VHS. Now, many years later, I decided to share with all of you. I hope you enjoy it. Any problems with the translation, just ask, and I may be able to help you.

I’m 76 and grew up with this music. It was about the best era for music, we danced and we had style. Nothing like today.I learned to dance at an early age with my cousin and loved it. We also watched American Bandstand w Dick Clark. Good Times!

This was an excellent show. I heard somewhere that Gary gets tired of doing his hits. They probably all do ,theyve done them thousands of times. This is my favorite Era in music.

TY for sharing this with us. I live in a Nursing home. I live in the Fireside Room most of the time. It has the computer. I can get on KZbin , I love music. I grew up in this Era. I am a little younger here so I play rock and roll but most of them like it. I also like all the rest of Music. But my Heart is This. And # 1 is ELVIS. But this was so good. TY again for sharing. We will enjoy.

When I was a kid around this same time (maybe earlier? 86 or so?) there was a similar concert that played on PBS in a studio, with a similar lineup I've been trying to find... it was hosted by Cousin Brucie as well, and had The Coasters, The Drifters, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ben E. King, Lesley Gore, Brenda Lee, Chubby Checkers and Darlene Love!

I'm still looking for a PBS show from the late 70s or early 80s featuring some of the best doo-wopp artists such as Willie Winfield and the Harptones and Arlene Smith and the Chantels. I watched this show on Channel 13 in New York and it was hosted by Jeff Greenfield. All these years later, I've been unable to find a copy of the show.

I think that the announcer in the red sweater is Bruce Marrow, disk jockey then on WABC Radio in NYC known as "Cousin Brucie". He is still alive and on the radio...!

At one time each of the surviving original Shirelles had her own group. So the main original lead, Shirley Alston Reeves, may not be there but one of the other original Shirelles is

The Coaster group here is led by the original lead Carl Gardner with Ronnie Bright (Bass from Mr. Bass Man) fame and Jimmy Norman. I don't recognize any original members in the Platters, but Danny and The Juniors here is featured by original member Joe Terry.

According to the wikipedia there has been different lineups in The Platters thorough the years, now all the members of The Platters are replacements of the original members, and the same happens with The Del-Vikings.

Not only is Joe Terry an original member of Danny and the Juniors, but the singer on the right of the screen is Frank Maffei, also an original member of the group. Later, some time after this show was taped, Frank’s brother Bob joined the group, though Bob is NOT an original member.

Not sure about Jimmy Norman. The singer on the right looks like Earl “Speedo” Carroll (of “The Cadillacs”) who was a Coaster for about 20 years.

The bass singer is Ronnie Bright and Carl Gardner is singing lead. Earl had left the Coasters by the time this was filmed. Ronnie sang on the top 10 hit Mr Bass Man. Carl and Ronnie are both gone now RIP guys.
