I was a kid just in my teens when I saw Richard Pryor: Live in Concert. When he did the stuttering Chinese waiter I laughed so hard my abs hurt. My dad and his best friend were big Pryor fans. They used to improvise Mudbone routines. My dad's friend did a variation of stuttering Chinese waiter. He did Japanese guy sneezing. He would do it when he really sneezed too, just out of nowhere. It was hilarious. My brother and I and all our friends did it too and all the Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy routines from Delirious and Raw. Man, we had fun. Thanks for all the laughs and good times all the great comedians. RIP Richard, Johnny, Carlin, Sam Kinison, Robin Williams and so many more who have passed. You brought joy and laughter to the world.

The seventies nurtured the comedians it started in the 60s Richard Pryor George carlin and others. But the 60s rock real rock ‘n’ roll we’re talking Janis Joplin the doors Jimi Hendrix for the artist that we lost in Seoul so many other great groups to this day that still perform the Beatles Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones who would ever believe that 60 years later they would still be performing. Richard Pryor had a special aired tonight on his behalf “The last days of Richard Pryor” aired 1/16/20 on NBC, he put in his act something that’s funny to most, but real that lived his life style where he states a conversation between his pipe and him. Richard was freebasing cocaine he ultimately tried to commit suicide which is unsubstantiated but he stated it where he was missing either water a lighter and burn himself up badly. He talks as if his pipe is telling him it’s OK with you it’s just you and me Richard, don’t listen to everybody else we got this, I got you covered Richard don’t listen to those other people that care about you, Its just you and me, were in this together Richard... it’s funny to those that haven’t been the slave to the pipe, but to those who had been in the past it’s 100% truth it’s not a rationalization it’s the only thing that makes sense that you’re so far down the rabbit hole with the drugs in it it’s talking to you and you’re not listening to reality friends loved ones family anybody I can explain I don’t understand all I know is I lost everything and when they I say everything I mean a loving wife of 33 years, I managed to keep my shit together for 25 years, I was an electronica engineer at the top of my game work but you start ups as a multimillionaire and they drug check over my life and I just it all away with help and I don’t blame her from my ex. Do you punish me she spent $3 million in four years while we were separated when it was all gone she said she wanted to separate our finances despite that there was nothing left to separate except for real estate and my ass out of my 401(k) I wish I had the soundbite of Richard explaining how the pike took control of him I would play it for my three daughters who have their PhD my middle child has her masters in as a teacher at a college and my younger sister going to college I provide for my family well and they turned out great! I regret every day of my life from the day I got separated. A life that many dream to have. Money does not buy happiness. And if anybody tells you different family is everything! My wife told me after I cleaned up that if I proved it to her for six months we get back together yet she was already having affair with my best friend of 20 years and stab me in the back by spending every penny we had except for our real estate and the money she couldn’t touch. I regret all the harm I did to her and my daughters to say anything less I would not be a man. If your using out of control please listen to this again and don’t make the so dear life altering no going back decisions that I can only say the fight made for me for if I was rational or sane I would never have let it get that far. Aloha!

California Suite is a very funny movie. It's written by Neil Simon, who wrote The Odd Couple. RPryor is really good in it.

Johnny Carson barely kept it together lol Richard was waaay to much of a powderkeg at that time, back then this type of humour was unheard of on TV because it wasn't allowed at all. The N-word was not ok to say for a few years, and then came Richard ... Made light of everything and everyone could let out a nervous laugh. Compare years. Dave Chapelle? Exact same routine. (look at previous Richards standups) Literally word for word routines. Richard was brilliant. Just brilliant

Actually Pryor is not the person that changed the censorship. He along with George Carlin may have been the funniest people, but it would be wrong to say this wasn't allowed and Pryor changed it all. Censorship was being removed by end of the 60s and things changed dramatically in the 70s. All in the Family was saying the N-word along with a million others slurs in a 1971 comedy. By the late 70s this was really old hat. The 70s may actually be the only decade where Hollywood wasn't uptight and people were free. Censorship didn't fade until late 60s and came roaring back in the 80s in a big way. The really big media companies don't want entertainers to have freedom. They hate the 70s while most of the viewers and performers loved it.

@@stickman1742 good call. the 70`s is where EVERYTHING took off, especially after the swing`in `60`s. name 2 horror flix in 1965? 1974. EXORCIST, ROSEMARYS BABY. Cocaine/Heroin runnin? FRENCH CONNECTION, SUPERFLY and many others. Sex on screen tit shots and ass shots? to many 2 name. I liked CARRIE myself. SISSY SPACEK was scary fine. SEKA and JOHN HOLMES were cool also.

I identify with Richard Pryor so much! I am 74 y/o When I was 6 y/o and my brother was 3 y/o, my Mother was divorced and couldn't afford to support us so we lived with her parents, my Grandparents. They were great but strict. Right away my Grandparents put a "switch" in the kichen window so we could see what e would be spanked ewith if we disobeyd. They told us don't you dare come home from school and say that your teacher hit you. That measns you did something wrong vand we will hit you too. You might say they were mean butg no, they loved us and prepared us for life in the real world. I thank God ofteh for my Grandparents who were born in 1890 and 1898.

the interview is brilliant. and you know Richard is a certified Genius. he turns Carson into the interviewee. starts asking questions. and I wealth this and see how respect and decency was given to people on thier merit and thier skills not the color of thier skin even though Richard grew up with a lot of hate and racisim. and he didn't care. he did but he didn't because he saw the hurt and destructiveness of racism. but he has fucking gold shoes. had huge audiences and he made a lot of people laugh. that's noting but a force of positivity. now we got Chappell and Paul Moony Bill Burr even Tim Minchin. all could talk and speak about racisim but with understanding humor grace and brilliance. so woth out getting to wordy. just gonna say RIP Richard your loved and appreciated. thank you we sure need your reincarnated spirit now. youd be probably more political but done a lot of good.

A lot of people don't understand that Richard Pryor did this off the cuff shit with NO BLUEPRINT. He instinctively knew "funny" in a way that hadn't been explored. Its pure genius. Every great comedian after him learned from him.

I would hear my dad calling me 3 blocks away. Before any of my friends would say "Bobby Your dad is calling you" I would already be on my bike. He wouldn't call my name, it was a whistle.

Yeah, it must've stung him inside having to make up some of the stories of his parents like that. People didn't find out until later that he grew up in a brothel, his dad was a pimp, his mom was a prostitute and his grandmother was an extremely abusive madame.
