Let’s put it this way. He’s in the perfect system to achieve defensive heights we’ve never seen before. David Robinson, DPOY. Tim Ducan 8x All defensive first team. Kawhi Leonard, DPOY. Even Dejounte Murray made an all defensive team and led the league in steals. They will transform Wemby into arguably the best rim protector and defend we’ve ever seen and they have the track record to prove it.

blocks are not even a great measure of a rim protector. KG is probably a top 5 all time defender and he never averaged a shit ton of blocks and got snubbed for many DPOYs because of that. we have better measures now, first of all block % but more importantly stuff like opponent rim field goal % for the guy you're guarding and for the team, rim deterrence, etc. it just happens that the best defender in the league rn is a guy that hunts blocks aggressively, which you could even argue is a weakness since he sends guys to the line so much. that being said wemby is basically a guaranteed defensive star, it will take a lot longer to see how his offensive game will develop so casuals will probably think he's a bust bc they don't care about defense and they're expecting him to be 7'4 kobe

What KG doesn't talk about with the 3pt corner example is that Wemby with his size and speed has the ability to disrupt both the driver to the rim and the corner shooter. He can follow the driver for the block, force the pass and he only has to make 2 big strides and he is in the corner contesting the 3. You'll see him do a lot of that eventually. Pressure the driver, maybe not job, then recover to the 3pt shooting center. A guy like Embiid for instance isn't going to put it on the floor to get around him, so it'll be interesting to see how he'll lock em up!

For Wemby it SHOULDNT be about leading in blocks!!! For Wemby to have a chance at longterm success in the league his mind has to develop defensively. Meaning instead of looking for the block, he has to be looking and talking loud to his teammates on defense while looking for the best defensive play...lets be honest a shot contest means the shots already in the air which mean the offense has been successful in executing their offense; that being said all the defenders including Wemby SHOULD want to stop the ball from even being shot by the offensive team! How would they do this? They would need to be ready to pickup playing defense with the intent of defending ball handler and entire defense looking to shoot the gaps for the steals or if in the half court having arms up for all defenders double teaming on cuts recovering and closing out with meaningful intent to use fundamental techniques not just flying past instead of getting back low in defensive posture after successful closeout, and at some point if the opponent gets a shot up then Wemby and all the defenders on the team will have to find player closest to them boxout and seal them in order to increase gaining a defensive rebound. This focus should all Wemby and the Spurs should be thinking about planning and executing all season and his career...if they can master that they can easily be above .500 win team in the west.

Summer League really don't mean sh*t, since you're playing against the third/fourth string players who are going to be cut in the regular season. There's so many times that a dude gets like 10 APG in the summer league and then he gets 2.5 APG in the regular season. Plus, there's no urgency, and it's a small sample size of games, and blocks / steals especially offer a small sample. Best thing for Wembenyama is that, as a ROY candidate, his team is going to give him some good minutes. Whereas guys who get drafted 15th may get marginal minutes until they can get their defense, stamina, and scoring up.

I'm not sure what Katie means by his body is not conditioned. The man played in the French ligue where he's playing against grown ass men. He was not playing college ball. I think Wendy is going to play 75 to 80 games this year and his body will be just fine.

He’s not conditioned to play potentially 100 games in a calendar year at this pace. FIBA ball is a lot slower. There’s no defensive three-second rule. You can goaltend. The three point one is shorter. Defenders don’t have to cover nearly as much ground as they do in the NBA. And the French League is very mid.

Nahh man nahh... I love KG... But I just saw 2 preseason games. And Pop had him at the elbow like Paul Pierce and Mellow use to roam. He playing PF. Listen I know the competition in preseason is low. But that shot is easy for him. It's like KD when he elevates ain't nobody contesting that. Every time he took that shot it was easy money. So easy he got bored with it. That man can avg 20 easy just of that shot alone.. Then you talk about the put backs, the 3s and the leak outs... You can already see it. His game is built for the NBA. His shot mid range is water 💧

Just by rolling and getting dunks he’ll average 20…… once he get comfortable with his shots, he’ll easily be average 25+

Wemby is definitly gonna average 20 points a game if not injured!

PPG have nothing to do with that. He could very well average 20PPG and be injured, only playing 40 games in the season...
