Florida here. We're known for our mosquitoes. Floridians have been using scented dryer sheets for ever down here. We rub the sheet on our arms and legs then we just lay a few on the patio table and tucked in our chairs. Keeps 95% of them away. Doing that along with a small fan works 100%. Just blows them away.

I am a horticulturist and have all kinds of Biological and environmental pests and critter hacks ..never heard of Irish Spring working so well ...makes sense ..Rosemary plants will help keep all kinds of things away ..its a beautiful plant ..All kinds of Herbs can repel insects and Critters ..most have fragrant odors that animals and pests are highly sensitive too ...plus herbs are just AWESOME to grow and use in all kinds of cooking and home remedies .. I don’t use Alka Seltzer, I use the cheap brand of denture cleaning tablets. It works just as good and cost way less. Got some of the dollar tree Irish spring soap for indoor ideas but I’ll have to try it on the outdoor hacks too!

We also use denture tablets for everything she used Alka Seltzer for cleaning. I run them in the dishwasher as well with our normal dishwasher soap. Great video. The soap is also good to rub on wooden furniture drawers. Helps with a smoother slide, keep bugs away & leaves a nice smell when you open them up.

20 years ago I couldn't keep the deer out of my garden. A old timer told me to lay bars of soap around the garden, been using Irish Spring like that every year since, never have deer, rabbits or other critters in the garden. Have told several friends about it after they had problems, all of them now use soap around their gardens every year.

Crushed or small pieces of ice and some salt is great to clean inside your glass coffee pots. Swirl it around for a minute if you have real bad stuck on dark spots. We did that at a restaurant and it worked great.

Baking soda and vinegar whitens wash amazingly well. Take husband’s shirts that have collars badly soiled. Sprinkle baking soda onto dirty soiled collar. Put inside washer and add 1/2 cup of vinegar on top of shirt. Turn on washer. Take out shirt clean and soft.

When I first saw the thumbnail I thought maybe it was going to be the hack I use for one of the best shaving soaps I've ever used. I just grate Men's Dove from the dollar store into my shaving mug and pack it down. The cleansing cream in it gives me the best shave and leaves baby soft skin @ 77 yo. Also, apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish soap in a jar with holes in the lid lures fruit flies to their doom. Got that one from the tube.

Yes, the vinegar lures them in and then they get stuck in the soapy water and drown. I do this too in the summer as we constantly get a ton of gnats because my wife insists on owning 7 million house plants 😂. I’ll definitely tell my father about the shaved soap to shave his face though. He uses it to bathe so I’m sure he’d appreciate that hack of yours, especially because it’ll save him some money on shaving cream.

Strongly Disagree on the mice deterent. I read this suggestion elsewhere, bought a case and shredded it to protect a new $3000 pool cover. Delivered in spring, stored til fall. Got my new pool cover out of the garbage can in the shed (with the Irish spring shavings in the can and sprinkled generously around and inside shed) and was Mortified of all the mouse damage! I had to use 3" gorilla tape inside and out to seal/cover of all the holes before install. OMG We've had very little damage in the past 9 years to our old cover, Before the Irish Spring. Never had holes big enough to tape.....til now. Also, told my girlfriend about putting it in her RV (another suggester)(I never tested it out first).....she said they ATE it and loved it apparently. She wasn't happy about her damage either. Just our personal experiences. Not a mice deterent.

Peppermint Essential Oil is a Mice Deterrent … add drops to cotton balls, sprinkle those around strategic areas. The # of drops may depend on your own tolerance for the scent - The first year I did this, the peppermint smell was almost overpowering in my garage, so the “you can always add more” principle would apply here too.

I can believe that bugs hate Irish Spring. My regular soap was discontinued so I bought a bar 20 years ago. Unwrapped it and placed it in the shower for the next morning. 2:00 am - I woke up with my sinuses on fire - because of that soap - 2 rooms away! Got up, picked it up with a plastic bag so I didn't have to touch it and carried it outside to the trash can so I could get some sleep.

Put a bird bath under tour apple tree, and squirrels/birds will avoid going at your apples. Keep the water fresh everyday. Add a feeder for both animal also. Both animals seek out fruit for lack of water. The animal feed is what their bodies mainly need, but if that is lacking they will go for the apples/fruits. I promise this will help out a ton.

Excellent tutorial! Place a bar of this (or similar), under the bed sheets. Keeps odors away. VO5 cleans silver. The insert tells all one can do with VO5. Bay leaves, tobacco, cloves keep little buggers out of clothes(winter summer storage). A little container of Cloves kept on a shelf, with winter hats and gloves smells good but the bay leaves and tobacco keeps away moths, silverfish, etc.

A cheeper way to clean coolers, toilets, tubs, etc. is to use a 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/2 salt, 1 cup vinager. Does the same thing as those tables and its already in your kitchen. For disinfecting counter spray use hydrogen peroxide.

It's probably both the scent and the glycerine. It isn't harmful to you. It's like Dawn dish soap. It works really well against fleas for young animals too young to get regular flea treatments. Salt added to shampoo keeps headlice away. (Make sure you rinse really well, and use conditioner after, it's basically similar to swimming in the ocean). It works, it isn't any more toxic to you than shampoo without salt, but it can be hard on your hair. It will kill lice and dissuade them to even get into your hair in the first place. If you have a kid in school and there is an outbreak, this can help protect their heads and hair. Also, comb comb comb if someone *is* infected. Insects and beetles have different sensitivities than we do. The salt dehydrates them and gets stuck in their exoskeletons. For them, even a little salt is a massive amount. It will kill them. The same amount is harmless to us, unless you start scaling it to body size and weight. The same is true for the soap. It's not "toxic" any more than any other soap. Glycerin is a bug repellant, and they *also* don't like the smell. It doesn't *kill* any bugs, just makes them go elsewhere.

@@saqueradry3629 all soaps are "chemicals". That doesn't make everything harmful. It's the glycerine in the soap that acts as a repellent. The scent of Irish Spring is also one bugs don't like. So there is that. It won't outright kill anything, just makes them go somewhere else. It's also why if you're going to use it, you should use it on your entire perimeter.

I think they are appliances that should only be used on like occasions like christmas or thanksgiving where you did a lot of work and shouldnt have to wash all that mess by hand. I always have a bottle of chlorine in the house because sometimes it's the only way to get a really good clean after it's been a while or when you have many animals and one of them gets sick. You defo have to put chlorine in the cleaning mixture. Also when my bath stains because of dyes or cloves. Nothing else whitens it again WITHOUT scrubbing

So, after listening to you, and then poking fun at my wife because she has your same northern Midwestern accent, which I find absolutely adorable. I started thinking and came up with a question. Wouldn't it work to take the spray bottle with the Irish Spring solution and spray it around the door frame, or wherever you needed that scent but didn't want any visible traces of the soap? It seems like it would be a much cleaner application, so you wouldn't see any residue like you would when rubbing it on like a big crayon, or springing the shavings around. Not to mention, applying it would be so much quicker and easier, and you could apply it whenever you noticed its effectiveness beginning to diminish. This time of year in the Phoenix area we get a lot of flies bussing in through our sliding patio door, so I'm thinking I might try making a water solution and spraying it all around the patio area. Shower gel doesn't work as long. The bar soap works partially because the hard soap itself sticks and stays in place, thus keeping more of the scent in the places you put it. The gel has lots of water to make the gel and disappears fairly quickly thus taking the scent away fairly quickly as well.

You can also use tinfoil strips in your fruit trees all over the branches and it deters birds squirrels all that stuff something to do with the shiny. Part so that's a good idea too but I love your video. I'm fixing to try it because I live in the country and my garden gets destroyed before I can even get anything

I've never heard of this. Is it the same as the green household soap that was used for everything in the olden times of 40 years or so back when my children were small?

My mom used "Lava" brand. A soap bar she used for laundry and cleaning. I don't think it has the same effect on pests and critters as Irish Spring.

We use Irish spring to keep mouse out and we pack Christmas decorations and other things we pack away with Irish spring in the box to keep the nice from getting into it. Works like magic.
