Thank you, o Scottmaster, for showing me the light. I thought I'd have a go at learning the Bach bourree on classical guitar, since I've got a book lying around with a fingerpicked arrangement of it ... And although I'd be the first to admit that I don't play the electric guitar very well, it has now come to my attention that I can't play classical guitar at all. Still, I persevere, and I hope within a few months that I'll have the first phrase down.

Yes, it will be hard to see a Luthier making a classical guitar with a truss rod (but there are some). Then again traditional brands like Córdoba comes with truss rods, as well as some guitars models from La Alahmbra. My own Fender CG-11E (+27 years old) comes with a truss rod. La alpujarra, an Argentinian brand that export to other countries, also comes with truss rod in the recent years. Takamine's and Taylor's (among others makers) classical guitars comes with truss rods too. Also some classical players just play with the fingertips, either because they like the sound better, or because their nails are bascially crap and they don't want to use plastic ones. Never the less, nice video! and cheers from Argentina

As someone who plays classical guitar, I think most plectrum players would find it equally difficult to play both classical and fingerstyle guitar because both classical and fingerstyle playing requires polyphonic playing. Plectrum players who use hybrid picking might not have much problem with the left hand when they attempt to play classical/fingerstyle, but they will have problem adjusting to right hand technique. Also, techniques like tremolo would most likely be challenging for plectrum players and I'm betting it's not possible to play maleguena or recuerdos de alhambra with a pick because it requires a bassline with the melody being played with the tremolo technique. In Alhambra for example, tremolo is used on B string fret 5 while the thumb plays open A, 2nd fret D, 5th fret G, 2nd fret D and then tremolo is used on B string fret 3 while thumb goes to G string 4th fret, D string 2nd fret which wouldn't be possible with a pick even with hybrid picking. Other than tremolo, which is probably the most difficult right hand technique which I'm sloppy at, there are also strumming techniques like rasgueado and other right hand stuff like alternate fingering which is like alternate picking but you alternate between middle and index fingers. There is this technique which I find challenging which is difficult to explain. One example of it is where the melody on the G string is 12, 9, 14, 11 fret numbers played by thumb and in between each note, open B and E strings are played using index and middle so it's GBE, EBE, ABE, F#BE. In that example, I find playing consistently with index and middle on B and E strings difficult but I seem to be a lot better at it right now.

serious question: is there any problem with re-stringing a regular acoustic with nylon strings? that BMV1000 fugue was great, and i definitely hear how tinny and bright the steel metal strings are playing bouree.
@bobsir29583 жыл бұрын
If you buy nylon strings with ball end, than there should be no problem!
@alindpe3 жыл бұрын
There are actually quite some problems. 1) Nylon strings are thicker (at least the "high" ones) so they won't fit in the nut slots. And if you file the nut slots to get the nylon strings to fit you won't be able to go back to steel strings. 2) Intonation will be off on at least some of the strings. 3) There's less tension in nylon strings so you may have to adjust the truss rod. So to me it's a better idea to continue using steel strings. (Personally I play classical pieces on classical guitar, acoustic steel-string and electric guitar and I enjoy that even if the sound is totally different )
