XD It's not like one of the most prolific VAs on the planet, Phil Lamarr, who notably has played plenty of Caucasians or Asians over the years like Samurai Jack, being the same has even been a problem. Pretty like Steven Blum (another VA who happens to be white) playing the black guys he himself has. Both of them put work into making their characters sound right and do their best to show respect to the character's cultures. As it should be.

I think it's bc it's just Hiroki Takahashi doing the singing and there's no else in the booth. If I'm not mistaken that's how the Japanese so their voice acting. Everyone is in the same room. Or maybe that's just in movies either way uh for me I prefer the Japanese dub

@@Sheenifier They do tend to do it in the same booth when possible so that they can play off of each other. There’s footage of a lot of the seiyuu involved with Impel Down being in the same room during recording provided they have a speaking part (which is why if you see a recurring character show up but they don’t speak, it’s to save on money since they’d otherwise have to bring them in to record and pay them and the animators for the lip flaps), and a lot of the side roles (the prisoners and the Newkamas) doing efforts and the like. Not sure if it’s still on KZbin or if it got taken down. Used to be that American voice actors did that too, particularly in the 90s (notably with DCAU or anything Andrea Romano directed given a lot of stories from other actors about Mark Hamill getting up out of his chair whenever it was his turn to read for the Joker), but at some point it just stopped being so regular. These days that sort of thing is reserved for particularly special occasions or if the character dynamic calls for it and other times it’s a happy coincidence provided the voice director also has an acting part in the work they’re directing.

The English dub had stellar voice acting pretty much from the entry to the grand line and on, some characters were great from the start, so it was a pretty safe bet this was going to be good. A pretty large part of one piece's english VA cast are experienced voice actors.
