This, despite what the video states, is part of why Katakuri doesn't have a problem with Luffy. Despite everything that happened, at no point did he do any lasting damage to any of his family except big mom. His favorite sister, he kidnapped, but she was never harmed. He didn't judge him for his mouth, and they both conqueror haki'd his other sister when she was being annoying. Which knocks them out but doesn't harm them. Meanwhile big mom in the span of a day killed more family members than anyone else. Katakuri (and his sister) strike me as the two people that want nothing to do with what's going on, but can't help but not because its their family doing it. He had no skin in the game other than the last name. If he was the same person but wasn't part of the family, or even some hired hand, he would have sat back eating donuts and enjoyed the show as luffy went loony toons on the whole island.

I think the funniest thing about Whole Cake Island is the thing that really tipped the scales in Luffy and the other's favor, as well as the thing that finally made the Big Mom Pirates start taking them serious as a potential threat was, something Luffy didn't even know about: the bomb inside the Tamatebako was originally put in there by the Minster of the Right because someone stole what was already inside of it and planted it as a trap for future thieves when they open it, but King Neptune already gave the Straw Hat Pirates the box and by the time the Minister tells Neptune about the bomb, Luffy had already given away the Tamatebako to Big Mom as a means of appeasing her so that she wouldn't destroy Fishman Island, at which point Neptune decides not to tell Luffy about the bomb just to avoid stressing everyone out. It is an absolutely absurd series of events in order to plant this Chekhov's Gun that gets fired during the climax of Whole Cake Island's arc, and I love it for that!

I do like that interpretation of the ending, but I think it's a little off. I also don't think it's just respect for Luff that has him end it. There's a whole theme of Big Mom's kids being deathly afraid of her. He straight up asks Luffy, "If I let you go, you're going to kill my Mom?" Luffy goes, "You bet I'm going to do that." And Katakuri realizes this kid will be able to do what he can't, free his brothers and sisters from a life of fear and torment. He's betting on Luffy to break the abusive relationship for him.

While it is a funny theory that he saw gear 5th and noped out, I see people talking about the length of his future sight and arguing whether a few seconds is long enough to see it. I think that’s irrelevant because what I think confirms this wasn’t the case is that Kaido didn’t see 5th gear coming. If he did, he wouldn’t have been so mad at CP9 and taken a whole moment to say “you OK with what I’m about to do to you for that?” He would’ve just been confused about gear 5th and prepare. The only way to argue against that is to argue that Katakuri has better future sight than Kaido and given that Luffy wasn’t able to keep up with Kaido even WITH future sight he developed against Katakuri it pretty much confirms that Katakuri couldn’t have seen gear 5th coming. Though it still is a funny thought.
