Join us for a guided tour around the historic Shrewsbury Prison lactated in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England, UK
This is our first ever visit to a prison tourist attraction with a 2nd on the way when we visit Shepton Mallet, Shrewsbury Prison opened in 1877/1878 and closed in 2013 and is now open to the public for guided tours, escape rooms, ghost tours and much more
This was actually a very interesting tourist attraction and something that a lot of people have never done and something we have wanted to do for a while and it was definitely worth it

When I was in there 2012. We used to tell the new prisoners who had never been in prison before and tell them to push the green button as it was a doorbell and gave you service and you would always want someone push it and then about 10 officers will come running on the wing as you were only meant to push it for emergencies only

He said at the start that it opened in 1877!! He got that wrong!! The date it actually opened was 1793 & it closed in March 2013!! 😳😳

This was a very different vlog for sure. More serious, but also very educational. A sad and unsettling place, and it looked very claustrophobic in there. Very interesting to see how the prison has evolved with the times.

I visited on Sunday. You're right claustrophobic is very right. Even sat in 1 of the cells with door open wasn't pleasent. Very cold, eary and gloomy place.

Shrewsbury can be pronounced in two ways - shroo- or shrow- . Local tv and press often have commentary on this. The oddest thing is that most local people say 'shoo-" without the 'r'.

That brought back some memories. I spent a few months in HMP Nottingham. Locked up for 23 hours a day in a cell certainly isn't fun. It is difficult to stop thinking and dreaming of the outside world. When you leave it is amazing how fast the outside world is moving. Inside it was always noisy, day or night with a threat of violence never far away. You could just say the wrong thing or look at someone wrong and it could start trouble. It was fascinating learning new skills inside though. One of the weirdest was learning to make toast by pulling threads off our blankets then pulling the mattress from the bunk, lightening the threads and heating the metal springs to get some heat to toast the bread. Certainly net some characters inside, some of which I am still in touch with today, 19 years later. Really enjoyed this?video in a perverse way.
