Newbie here! I have some cherry neos & they seem to like the grip the lava rock provides & how the red color of the lava rock allows them to blend in! I also like that since they are porous rocks, they are much lighter weight if they do shift in the rock pile, unlike the solid rocks and also don’t displace water in the tank; as well as allowing biological filtration. So far so good, but I may find the shrimp would prefer something else for a nursery stack, like you. I also have a nice piece of driftwood as well for them & lucky bamboo roots to explore & hide as well! Thank you for your awesome tips! 🦐

Thanks a lot. I just put a bunch of lava rock for them to have a haven but after watching this, I'll find a way to get some river stones.

Yes, you have been called Shrimp Jesus for a reason. Thanks for the tips, Lucas. Lava rock might have been a problem for us in the past. We will stick to smooth rocks, wood, and crazy poofy plants next time. Hoping to get pearlweed rocking again.

@@danschnolis296 He does know a thing or 11. Lucas is a nice guy and awesome enough to share his experience and knowledge with us. I think the name might also have something to do with his hair. I am not sure where it came from originally, but he does deserve some respect. If I remember correctly, he was talked into thinking about starting this channel because people admired his work with shrimp.

@@FullMoonAquatics I wasn't disputing LRB's accomplishments or experiences. I think he's a great guy and a wonderful aquatic specialist. He certainly deserves the title of "Shrimp Jesus." I inferred a tone in your response to my comment that I might not be giving LRB his due. Absolutely not the case. There is no need to defend him, at least not to me. If I'm wrong about your response, then please ignore this comment. I'm glad we have a mutual aquatic guru in LRB to get info from. Keep your sleeves wet!

@Dan Schnolis - It’s all good, Dan. Just wanted to clarify for those that may not know that we use these nicknames in our community (Shrimp Jesus/Mad Scientist/Killie Squirrel), out of respect for Lucas. ;-)

A Bazillion was a bit of an exaggeration... I would say only a Gazillion... I use piles of wood, a few tiny little apisto caves, and lots of Java moss and subwassertang. I got the idea from you a year or two ago.

Where do you get the rocks? Do you use larger River Rocks or small river rocks. Do you make a cave just put them in a pile? I was also wondering how you use Cholla wood to do the same thing?

You can do those too makes their house more edible. Would fight a bit of tannins but if you don’t mind them. I usually steer away from driftwood cause I don’t like snagging my nets on them 😄

@LRBaquatics3 жыл бұрын
Sand is great and if it has been running for some time that is even better. More mature(old) the tank is better it is. As mentioned in the video just a pile of rocks goes a long way. Then give them time to settle. You may not see them for a few weeks at first but then eventually they will get comfortable enough to come out.

Hi LRB, have you used peatmoss to lower ph in a caridina shrimp tank instead of the branded substrates to lower ph? and how did it go for you?
@LRBaquatics5 жыл бұрын
I have, it works well but you need quite a bit and it doesnt sink or sit well so if just peat moss as substrate the fish will dive and hide in it easy and pretty hard to grow plants in if by itself. You can always cap it with sand or put a mesh bag of it in your canister filter

what U think about using yeast CO2 for neocaribian shrimps ? thanks .
@LRBaquatics Жыл бұрын
I personally am not a fan. Yeast co2 is to inconsistent for me and not worth the hassle imo. Co2 is not necesarry for most aquarium plants if doing routine water changes, but more like a steroid for them. Co2 can be done with shrimp but you wont get much breeding and run risk of killing your shrimp.
@kenblock6012 Жыл бұрын
@@LRBaquatics The problem is that we don't have high-quality water here, and most of the plants, even after adding fertilizers under the substrate or in the water, gradually rot, or just stagnate and I don't know how to prevent it. That's why I was forced to use yeast CO2 because it's only a 30L aquarium and mainly because I wanted the shrimp to have some green. Before that I used hair grass, but without CO2 it turned brown within a month and I had to start the aquarium again with CO2. the checker still shows a nice green liquid, do you think that yeast CO2 can kill neocaridin shrimp?
