I have a pond and bought 100 ghost shrimp to eat some of the algae. They are very small. I have gold fishes there and they eat insect larvae that appears in the pond and adult insects that fall in the water. So I'm waiting for them to grow a little before release them in the pond. They are in a smaller container and I partially change water every day with pond water. I feed them some algae and fish food. They are growing, I can see. I released 2 to see if they survive but they are transparent and I can't see them in the pond. Soon I will release all of them. Hope they survive.

Do I really need a light at all if I leave the tank outdoors on my lanai in Florida. There is plenty of indirect sunlight through the lanai screens. The annual temperature range is typically 50 degrees F to 90 degrees F, with an average around 70. This seems to me like it should mimic the shrimp's natural environment. Certainly the day / night changes are natural.

So I have question on lighting what happens when your tank is over 24" in height anything 24" and under is fine at 6500 k but I have noticed growth in my larger tank to somewhat slower than my smaller tanks all of my tanks have the same plants in. From what I understand this is expected but no answers on how fix it. Should take up 10000 k because I tried carpet plants but not had any success.
@SooShrimpBreeders6 жыл бұрын
Its hard to carpet when the depth is over 18 inches. You would need a lot of light with a decent par rating to carpet
@victorfox96235 жыл бұрын
The further away a plant is from the light, the slower it will grow. Look at high power LED light diodes for better depth penetration. Change the activated carbon every three weeks to keep the water clarity crystal clear. Color from driftwood tannins or from food, can severely reduce the amount of light that shorter plants receive.

@@SooShrimpBreeders that's smart! I didn't realize chickens like them. I've also started dehydrating them to stick in to my homemade shrimp food. Figure there are a lot of good nutrients in there.

I think its not rotala. its rather bacopa. and bacopa is i think is like black hole for nitrite and aminia. i had issue with algae and nitrites rising in tank. but after i added just 5 stems of her to 10 galon tank algae declined in 2 weeks.

Do you use and fertilizers in your low light plants.? Whats the best inert substance for Neo's?
@SooShrimpBreeders6 жыл бұрын
Any non active substrate will be ok as long as its shrimp safe. I personally use flourite or pool filter sand. Also I dont use any fertilizers of any kind
@augustvukosovich46835 жыл бұрын
I use fertilizers in my painted fire cherry shrimp tank but I dose at 25% of what the directions say. I haven't lost any so far. I'm starting a shrimp only tank this week because my guppy fry are predating on the babies and it makes me sad lol. Beautiful plants you have there and beautiful shrimp too! Thanks for the education on shrimp. I'm new to the hobby and people like you have taught me a lot.

If you got the LED fixture for $40 and the Home Depot fluorescent fixture for $20, with bulbs being $10 each the LED fixture makes up that cost in just 2 years. That's not accounting for the decreased power usage (probably 30-40% less). I definitely think LED is worth it, even if the whole fixture needs to be replaced every five years or so.
@SooShrimpBreeders5 жыл бұрын
Led is getting close now but I still save a few on these. I have really deep tanks so I need a good Par value. The leds I need are rather pricey for what I need

I am enjoying your videos and have subscribed. However, what I'm really looking for is information on the life cycle of carodina and neocarodina shrimp. In one of your videos you mentioned that you had hundreds from an initial start of 20 in 7 months. Is that correct? How long for the females to become mature, how long do they carry the eggs, and how long for the babies to become adults? I know there may be some variation, but I can't seem to find any videos that even touch on this subject. Thanks.
