Loved watching you guys whether you are fishing or beach combing for pretty shells and such. So cool to see the Dolphins hanging around, easy meals for them. That knot you use is something similar to what I use when I tied my horses or when I tie my goats, just have to watch my sneaky filly, she knows how to undo these knots. When I take a break from my farm stuff(NorthernLightsGoats channel) I spend time either just sitting and playing with the babies and moms or I spend time making my Goat Milk Soap. I'm glad you found our channel too. Watch my method of shrimping and it will make your life a lot easier. We're commercial shrimpers because we have to be to trawl. LOL. What I mean is, I love trawling for hoppy and if you have any questions I'm here for help. I don't mind helping others that's willing to put in the time and effort it takes to trawl. I realize you are a seasoned fisherman , and so am I .... The reason I say that is , your tailbag rope should be a diamond braided nylon rope ...... That 3 wrap rope can come undone a lot easier than the diamond braid ..... Nice catch you there ........

Try putting heat shrink on the tails of your bag lines. Dolphins are smart and know to bite the knots on the end of the lines to open the bag.

Real nice! Your rope you using to tie the bag is too big. Go with a 3/16 or no more than a 1/4", it will be plenty big enough. That's what we used on 50' trawls.

Correct… Smaller diameter rope less chance of slippage. As the first knot: We make a simple knot tight, wraparound the bottom of the bag again, another simple knot then start the slipknot loops…much safer!!!

I love this, Parker. It has the 5.7 MerCruiser that should be putting out 250 or more horsepower. We buy our trawl gear from a family-owned business here called Beaufort Marine Supply. It's located here in Beaufort SC. You can check and see if they have a web page for their business. I'm not sure if they do or not. They have all types of supplies for commercial fishermen.

Nobody uses skimmers here in SC that I know of. I've seen them used in NC and other places with shallow trawling areas. Lots of the commercial boats I see here are trawling in 20+ feet of water. I don't really know how deep the skimmers are trawling.

We're pulling a 42' net and 5' x 2.5' doors. The doors have to be used trawling like we're doing. They're what keep the net open. I was using a 25' net with 18" x 36" doors before I decided to move up.

Most people we deal with want the shrimp already headed. We've had a few that want us to leave their heads on. We work with the buyers on what they want. If someone let's us know they want their heads left on before we go, we'll put the amount they want to the side. Shrimp won't keep but a few days with the heads on. Storage is an issue. Especially since we do not use any preservatives or chemicals on them as most commercial shrimp boats do.

We're still learning about shrimp trawling and like sharing our adventures with others who enjoy our video content. We've never been around anyone willing to share much info about how to trawl. Some people enjoy our videos, and I'm sure there are ones that don't. We do the best we can.
