So it's like a compression sock made specifically for your nubbin? That's pretty awesome! Would a normal compression sock also work, or are they different in that regard?
@grandmackdady

i shrinker is a little like a compression sock but with less pressure i use both to keep my stub from getting to where i can't put on my leg
@hot_wheelz
@hot_wheelz Жыл бұрын
Not to mention that a compression sock is a different shape compared to a shrinker, yes they are both a type of pressure garment but one is designed to fit a foot and lower leg (often upto just below the knee) and the other is designed to fit a stub post amputation (or as Jo puts it in such a lovely way a nubbin'). So no, a normal compression sock will not work as well as a shrinker for this use case as correct fitment is everything when it comes to the correct functioning of any pressure / compression garment.

I've also found that the foot of some compression socks don't compress evenly, like the heel and toes on mine are way looser

My prosthetist even said that I could wear the attachment sleeve for my prosthetic without attaching the prosthesis, to act as a shrinker that was a lot easier to wear than the original shrinker with it's waist straps, etc.

@@kelsey2333 My surgeon told me that this operation is essentially, an amputation. They cut through all the muscle, bone, and fascia, then take your entire knee, cut if off, and toss it in the nearest trash can. That's why the pain is so excruciating. A total hip replacement is a piece of cake compared to this procedure. It took me an ENTIRE YEAR to regain what I'd lost, and it never worked even half as well. A knee replacement is like getting a wooden leg, except it's on the INSIDE. If you think that this operation is a walk in the park, I suggest you get one for yourself, Dr. Kildare. P.S. If your knee replacement is unsuccessful, the only other option is an ABOVE THE KNEE AMPUTATION. Do your research before you start acting stupid on your parent's computer.

I still wear my compression sock everyday, it really helps with nerve pain and swelling from every day use wearing my prosthetic I had my amp 8years ago, it really does help long term to keep my volume fluctuations more under control and ease the nerve and neuroma pains. Don’t give up wearing it Jo! 🤗 Also make sure to keep well hydrated and top up your electrolytes if you have been sweating a lot to save muscle cramps and nerve pains when you take off your prosthetic at night🤗🤗

Wow I had no clue they can change due to different things I thought that was it. It's cool to learn new things thank you for the information it's really nice to hear things that I'd never ask about due to being too scared of being too personal. Hope you get back to walking and doing more activities again soon.

I’m a year and a half out from my bilateral BKAs and finger amputations and still only have one prosthetic leg, so I’m still in shrinkers. I agree, they HELP wit the nerve pain!
