@@MichaelB2LBRUH....out here in the mountains, we always get power outages. Summer and winter. Normal everyday life...lol The concern is the "big one" where an EMP, either by attack or from a massive sun CME, takes out the entire power grid for months over even past a year. THEN you're talking nightmare scenario.... ""Woolsey responded, “It’s briefly dealt with in the commission report of [2008]. There are essentially two estimates on how many people would die from hunger, from starvation, from lack of water, and from social disruption. One estimate is that within a year or so, two-thirds of the United States population would die. The other estimate is that within a year or so, 90% of the U.S. population would die. We’re talking about total devastation. We’re not talking about just a regular catastrophe.”"

Awesome! I HIGHLY prefer a hammock as well… As far as ticks, chiggers etc, I treat my clothes with permethrin and I use a bug dope formula from the 1800’s (I will do a video on it in the future).. Natural repellents include American Beauty Berry and most plants in the mint family.. I use hickory leaves for bedding which helps with chiggers specifically.. Glad there’s another 10mm fan out there 👊🏻

Hi! I’m a “native” of South Florida and have gone through numerous hurricanes..as a child going through a hurricane, a coconut pierced our shutters and came crashing through the glass window not far from me, so i have gone through scary times. That being said, to say this area has grown since my childhood is a HUGE UNDERSTATEMENT, so at this point I know what to do and what to pack, but HOW TO NAVIGATE AROUND THE MASSES is my biggest concern at this point…..we have only a few major highways going north/south; the swampy Everglades AND Lake Okeechobee in the middle….a few 2 lane highways and local streets along the way in the middle and a few highways (US1 and Dixie Highway) on the east side near the ocean side………ANY SUGGESTIONS ……🤔

Good stuff. Have you found since you have done these trials that it has impacted what you carry in your bag vs what you thought you would need? I’ve seen some folks loadouts and they have something for everything they can imagine. I’ve gone on several overnighters myself and I’m finding I’m carrying less and less stuff each time. I’m not survivorman I have a couple creature comforts but if I’m practicing get home skills or get from point to point skills. I probably dont need everything in my bag so more stuff is getting left in my trunk instead of carried. I’m not ultralight the purpose is to train with weight on, so I can find the hotspots & weak areas before I’m in a real event.

You just described my thoughts on the subject exacting.. Over the years and years, I have gone through many evolutions.. This pack was designed based on a previous back injury.. I wouldn’t exactly call it minimum- I think it’s important to have some creature comforts in fact.. People tend to carry WAY MORE than they need.. I think you’re definitely on the right track.. This pack weighs 12 pounds- with extra ammo 👍🏻

Liked the video. Thanks for doing it. For a scout I carry a Sawyer water filter and 2 Sawyer roll up bags and a disposable drink bottle that fits the Sawyer. Don’t take up much room and easy to plus up water till the next resupply. I used to carry a lightweight DIY hammock, now I use a DD ultra light hammock and detachable bug net. I always bring a poncho as it can rain in the late afternoon in the mountains of Virginia. And a military bug head net. While it can be hot as Heck during the day it can also go down to 50 or even in the 40’s at night. I bring thermals as they squish down and are lightweight, and fresh winter socks. I also bring a fleece beanie as well. Safety pinning a SOL double sized Mylar sheet to a poncho liner is a better option than a sleeping bag. I put some clear Gorilla duct tape in key spots before pinning the Mylar to the liner. The Survive Outdoors Longer Mylar sheet is quiet, stronger, and inexpensive. And it will help take you down to lower temps with seasonal clothing on. I also put and reinforced a slit into the Mylar so my head could just go through it. And I put a long zipper in the Poncho liner to allow my head to go through so I could wear the Mylar, liner and poncho together. The SOL doubled sized Mylar sheet also makes a great 5 oz tarp. So mate one Mylar Sheet to the liner or your Summer sleeping bag and prepare the other one Mylar Sheet with cordage for a tarp. Hot non caffeinated drink options and couple of snickers bars can get you through a wettin or a night if chilled even if you can get a fire going. And because it is usually damp or wet in the woods I’d like to recommend the 2.5 oz multi fuel two burner Pill Bottle Stove at www.neotrekk.com. I like it better than Hex tabs or the alcohol cat can stove for making hot drinks. Too bad you couldn’t construct and capture some of the rain in different spots along that dry Creek bed and place multiple Caches in case you and others have to stay out of sight for awhile. A few natural stealth camps already constructed would be help especially during inclement weather like rain or snow. You never know when a planned traverse may turn into the need for a sanctuary for awhile. I wouldn’t put your cache at your different camps cause your camps could be compromised at some point. Salt, rice for carbs and calories, multivitamins especially high dose B vitamins and magnesium citrate better absorbed,, olive oil for healthy fat, chia seeds for protein, spices for meat or soup, can make a prolonged stay possible and is unaffected by freezing can easily cached. Bullion does not store well. Flour can freeze but will either go rancid or deteriorate after a year. Macaroni would also be very good to alternate with rice. Hard candy is worth caching too. And some canned food, coffee and tea bags, and rice packets meals, for temporary unplanned stays can be rotated out yearly. I’d also cache some wire snares for squirrels and heavy wire snares for deer or hog. And spare fishing supplies, including some yo yo reels.

I was taught that when you enter the forest and are going to walk in the forest for a long time, you should immediately make/cut/pick up a stick/cane/staff for yourself and move on with it. Simple, strong and reliable 'cane' helps to move in the forest. What can you say about the use of 'cane' in the forest? PS sorry for bad english, ImTranslator helps)

Those bugout hacks for conserving energy, yes please! What is attacking you there JJ? What would you suggest if someone (like me) does not have anyone reliable to come find me, or even to tell where I am going. If and whenever possible I will go out hiking with other people, but that doesn't happen very often, and when it does it's going to be a walk not an opportunity to practice my skills.
@FueltheFires
@FueltheFires Жыл бұрын
Cool! I can make that happen for sure.. The thing that kept attacking me at the beginning was a Japanese hornet- a serious adversary! The rest of the time it was yellow jackets and various bees.. As far as letting someone know, my family wouldn’t be able to come get me in some of the areas I go.. They would, however, be able to tell Search & Rescue where I was.. That way qualified personnel could find me.. As long as someone knows a time and place, that’s what truly matters for a rescue effort.. Hope that helps and thanks for watching 🔥

Hello JJ.! Nice to have meet your acquaintances. We watch Fuel The Fires & ON3 as a family viewing, with our three girls whom admire the skills you shares with your viewers. You are one of their heroes besides JS. Our girls are bushcraft & survival proficient but there's always more to learn. We brought our children up to also Look, Listen & Learn from others. Take in what is required and share it with others. Knowledge gained has more value if it is shared. Our girls also make remarks & comments about your show & others. Their mother encourage it & that's how they learn from the professionals. Flavoured hydralytes are great addition to water found in the woods either from mother earth, plants or skies. The twins suggested that you wrap you gummy bears & snacks with your soaked shemagh to keep it cool, especially in high temperatures (twins live on gummy bears) & also add a small umbrella and safety glasses/goggles to your carry. The oldest sister suggested that after checking for widow makers, you should look around the tree trunk for anything that could bite or sting you before sitting down. Here in Australia, we've got reptiles & insects that can make your day less pleasant. She also suggested that you carry an inhaler, of course after discussing with your physician first. Even better if you just stop smoking. Apology mate, they're their mother's girls.!! By the way mate, could you tell us a bit more about your fixed blade? Thank you for sharing your skills with our family. Cheers from Australia. Looking forward to your & JS bug out scenerio.

Most of the survival instruction I've had has been in Florida or South America. Survival in the summer is way way easier than the winter. In the southeast water is usually plentiful and you probably won't get hypothermia. You might get heat exhaustion....but you won't if you manage your water and work.

Finaly found a guy without ego and has good attitude. I spend from October or so until july august in the Colorado backcountry each year with just a small backpack, very little gear, I am only among "civilized"world about 2months each year. Been doing this most of my life, especially last ten years. The more one knows the less one needs. Simple is better, my gear fits in kids day pack. Much of what you discuss is familiar, even though long term is far more free and fun than short trips, but for beginners or really just anyone short trips is a great way to learn. As a kid once i mastered a new skill (bow drill ) i would leave the modern equivalent (lighter) at home, and kept doing this until I just took what I could carry in my clothes pockets and stay out for several months at a time. I would only use or build a shelter if it was necessary or was staying one place for a long time. I never saw wood, i just use a horseshoe firepit in winter so I can just keep pushing logs in as they burn. Etc. Keep on with your fun, once again love the down to earth attitude and coomon sense ideas, not everyone in this lfestyle hobby or whatever is this way. I do love coffee and miss it when I run out, which happens every year. Your tops
