Optician here: The first number in an RX for glasses determines whether or not someone is near or far-sighted. As an example I’m in a -2.50 in my left eye (near sighted). Some people have positive powers like +0.75 which is far sighted and their glasses also get super thick the higher you go but just not in the same area that a minus rx would. Some people have reading additions in their glasses. James’ dad probably does that old man phone thing because he has presbyopia (which means ‘old eyes’). It’s something we all go through. Unfortunately phone use and the overworking of the muscles in the eye means that we’ll all start doing the old man phone thing at earlier and earlier ages.
